Of course, if you look at the actual unemployment rate (U-6), not the government's contrived number, it's still at 17.2% - down from 17.5% the previous month. Compare that to 25% during the Great Depression. This is hardly a cause for celebration; these big jumps in the dollar/stocks just show how much uncertainty is in the market. It's only going to get crazier.

Massive market suppression caused by paper shorting knocks people out of their stop-loss positions which cascades the effect. This, coupled with profit-taking which could have started the momentum. The shorts have been looking for an opportunity to panic the weak hands into selling again, this is it. The fundamentals haven't changed, the dollar is not all-powerful again, hyperinflation will still ensue in coming years. Buy while you can at this bargain price, it won't last two weeks and we'll be topping previous highs. In fact, if you notice, the markets generally sell off on this side of the world and rebound in Asia. jmho  |

| So, the economy lost another 11,000 jobs but the unemployment rate goes down? What kind of logic is that? How do you loose jobs but the unemployment rate is supposed to be going down? The sad thing is most people took this as good news. Not to mention some companies did hiring for christmas just to let them go in the next month. Only when jobs are added, not lost will there be any "good news". |
