Someone related to me today that the purity of Gold CMLs causes them to be so soft that they cannot be sold (to certain national dealers) without being weighed. Said dealers will not quote a "buy" price on them. Since I was strongly considering purchasing the CMLs for the sake of the purity, I need to know if anyone has ever heard of this.
BTW: if CMLs were a circulating coin this would make sense, but I strongly doubt anyone will handle any of them enough to cause significant wear.

It is true, Gold Maples are softer than other coins such as the Eagle and Krugerrand. The Eagle and Krand are something like 92% gold and then contain mostly copper and a sliver of silver for the remainder of the coin to harden it up and make it more durable. I have one gold maple that had been handled openly previously and now has many noticeable scratches on it.
I checked out apmex site, and they do not list a buy price for CMLS, so I emailed them. They do have buy prices listed for AGEs. They told me $20 over spot for CMLs and it was just an oversight.
