I dumped about $40 at the coinstar about 6 months ago, and on the reciept it differentiated between old and new pennies. There was like $.02 under old. I guess I'm not as perfect as I thought. Do they seperate them? Whats the deal?
No, they don't seperate them.. they all go in a common bin. The machine does check to see that they are real, and some machines give individual tallies for each type of cent. It will not accept a 1943 steel cent.
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

It also "EATS" Ikes, Morgans, and Peace dollars. It will take them, you won't get them back or get credit for them. Coinstar has contracts with armored car services. They sort the coins and get a set fee per machine.
