I am sure this has been discussed at length, but for some reason I can't find the topic. could someone post the link to the best ways or ideas on getting more pennies to sort. I am currently active at 3 different banks one of which has 2 branches that love to give me their loose bags from their machines, and another that will order several hundred dollars a week for me but they come rolled and I have been cutting them open with a utility knife. I only have one ryedale, yet it manages to sort faster than I can get supplies of pennies. Should I open more bank accounts? I would really love the general public to just drop em off by the truckload at my garage!!

You are on the right track. Looks like you need more source banks or branches. You could also try drivebys. I sometimes leave mt card with a note to call me if they have extra coin - saves them on shipping costs.

Then you have the zinc disposal issue - which seems to be the harder part.

Join a bank that has several branches close by. I regularly order from 5 branches of one of the banks I am a member at. 2 get deliveries on Tuesday and the other 3 on Thursdays.
Two of the branches will order just about any amount I want.

I also have 3 CU branches that will sell me bags.

You have to keep at it. Be persistent, and always be on the lookout for a new pickup bank or dump bank.

lol.. you should try feeding 3 of those puppies. Oh how I wish I could get bags of loose pennies. I always get rolls, but I have gotten really good at cracking them. The other members have given you good advice. You might want to check out the resistance to higher orders from the banks you have good relationships with that provide you with rolled coin. My standard order at most of my pickup banks is 24 boxes. You can kind of get a feel for what level they are comfortable with by talking with them. Never take them back to one of your source banks. More bank accounts probably wouldn't hurt.. as long as they are free. Also, you might want to take advantage of banks that are offering promotional offers to open accounts. This week I am opening another account at Chase because they want to give me $100. If I refer you to BofA they will give each of us $25.. that is a box of pennies each.

I want to hear your zinc disposal plan. That has always been the trickier side of the equation for me when I am trying to do decent volume.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Excellent information. I have a harder time getting loose pennies, even ordering has been a pain but so far the one lady is REAL friendly about it and always calls me when they are in. I believe they have to pay to get them so its a free service to me. I need to definately set up more bank accounts, we don't have a bank of America here in Bismarck ND however, I would really love to get at those pennies that are ending up in coinstar machines or sitting in some 80yr olds garage. As far as dumping, I always dump at my least conspicuous and least favorite branches, where the tellers have been rude or less than helpful. Ha ha. serves em right. I guess. Then I withdraw the pennies from their ATM and go order from nice people. What I mean by least conspicous, I have thought initially the branch right down the street would be great to dump, but they have to take them in the back and their machine is so slow. I'm standing around out front drinkin coffee lookin like a fool. So another branch (just happen to have non friendly people) is bigger and their machine is in the back sort of so you aren't really watched. unless the thing gets full which of course it does but so what? plus they happen to have a TV and internet kiosk right there too. NICE! I will never dump at a coinstar, the cord trick didn't work and it rejected a bunch of pennies and is terribly slow. BY THE WAY, Andy from Ryedalecoin.com is AWESOME!! He solves problems and delivers a nice product. Super guy!!

the cord trick? OH, the phone line in the back of a coinstar, I guess is not supposed to charge you a processing fee when unplugged, well I was at a seeding grocery store and said "What the heck?" unplugged it and proceed to dump my pennies, got 8 bucks in and a bunch on the floor, still assessed the fee and never even took my cash voucher to the counter as the line was too busy! Hate em! At least that one.

The trick is too unplug it and ask for a "gift card" Since it can't call, it will kick out a cash voucher for the amount w/o the fee.

That is what I have heard and read.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE TRY THIS. IT IS WRONG, AND MAYBE ILLEGAL.

I got really lucky and smarter after a few months in.I was hand sorting boxes and dumping at banks that counted into bags. Then I got lucky. After searching for more banks with coin counters, the new banks I found had counters which dump the coin mixed into a giant bin.So I turned my plan upside down. After waiting a few weeks,as not to get my old dumps,I started asking for bags at the banks I was dumping at and returning the dumps to the machines with the bins. After I few weeks I was done opening boxes and had 5 branches to supply me bags and 5+ branches to dump at.Its alot of driving but worth it.You have to be flexible and adapt your plan to your local situation. Now if I could only retrofit my van to a mobile processing center and sort while I drive in between banks.
Open lots of accounts, some you might use once or everyweek, some that don't have counters now may get them in the future.Always be freindly even if they shoot you down, candys and chocolates DO work.
Best advice hands down would be go back to the earlest posts on here and work forward. You could not put a price on the info provided here if your serious about sorting. The people here are awesome!
It takes some time but you will get there if you stay positive and can take some hits along the way.
I'm sure even Hoards processing center wasn't built in one day!

lol.. it is constantly under redevelopment. I have learned a lot along the way and faced many of the same challenges many other members are experiencing. I would hope some of my fellow members can learn from my past mistakes.

I completely agree with PennyPauper's advice. You have to be flexible and adapt to your situation.. much as a general adapts on the battlefield. You make the best of your local situation. Of course having heavy duty weapons in your arsenal can give you a slight advantage.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I would like to side with Hoard. If you are really not having any trouble with returning zincs. I would suggest slowly increasing your sorting amount. I would return about 400 without a problem. Then up to about 1500. The first week was the last week i could do this at my banks. I'm back down to 300-600 returns per week.

Just because copper cents are selling at 2xFV doesn't mean they are going to simply vanish next week. So I'd be careful not to over strain your bank relations.

Best of luck.

Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.
