There was a thread about this on GIM. I got through the recession in the 1980's, but this one is far worse, IMO. Instead of just layoffs, we're seeing plant closings. Closings of old, established companies, I might add. I've seen 4 recessions 1982-1986, 1991-1992, 2001-2003 (I know, not officially a recession, but a really bad time for a lot of companies) and 2008-?. This is the worst I have seen.

Same here. And if you're not a union, you're getting no help from any stimulus. Given the perfectly wrong management of the situation, I have a feeling things will NOT be getting better.

If it feels tougher its because it is. Because using the same calculating formulas from the 1980's, unemployment is double what we're being told. From what I have observed and am experiencing, 20% is definitely more like real life.

Don't believe ANYTHING our government tells us.

Most of us are afraid of losing our job. When we get older we can continue that concern while being afraid to even think of retiring. Is there any safe haven anymore? Nope.

Here in Wisconsin, we have some of the highest property and gasoline taxes in the US. We're squeezed so much, I have to make my daughter wear penny boxes for shoes. At least she has an endless supply.

Is this the same as an open admission that they are lying and that we have all been lied to? Of course the government would just say these are anecdotes and aren't scientific.
