Great article...
Definitely a wake up call for those still pondering a "safe" deposit box...

Roosevelt closed the banks in 1933 and went thru all the safe deposit boxes to confiscate the people's gold (where were the Constitutional due process and property rights) so it already happened here.

That's evil. Let's hold a protest at Roosevelt's grave and give him a good talking to. |
That's not a dollar, mate...THIS is a dollar.

Maybe the legal mess this has created will set an example for other governments, but I wouldn't count on it. I understand that some of the assets they seized have been returned, but what happens to the money they're keeping? I've always thought that funneling fines and seized assets back into police budgets creates a huge conflict of interest. |

This is a terrible precident being done in the UK. Just shows us that we shouldn't put any valuables in a safety deposit box that we cannot afford to loose. As an aside, I believe the contents of safety deposit boxes are NOT insured in any way. |

Its already happened here to a much smaller extent. There was an article out last year where the fees were'nt paid up, banks drilled the locks, gave the goods to the state who was sposed to find the rightful owners or heirs but didn't and added the proceeds to the budget. I think the articles focus was on Kali. These days you may as well have your stuff at your house cause if someone knows you got somethin and they want it bad enough they'll just send you after it while they keep your wife and kids busy. Wow, a double censored post. Censorship is a poor idea. Too bad....

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Guess I need to be more careful when I'm trying for humor, you never know who is monitoring these things (Big Brother) and I forgot that they have stuff that can pick up on key words. What was that movie, Eagle Eye? Don't want men in black showing up at my doorstep in the middle of the night just cuz I was trying to be funny. Personally, I do keep some stuff in my safe deposit box, but I've also included a notarized note stating that it is not an abandoned box, my full contact information, and that removal of the contents will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. |
Hoard now and hold on!

The bank doesn't insure the contents of safe deposit boxes, you have to get insurance from your home insurance company.

I'll have to get a shovel instead. |
As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?
