Ok I know it's not copper but it was a nice surprise in the last roll I sorted through last night. My first 1943 steel penny. Know for the question to the board of infinite knowledge. I want to keep this penny but on one side it is kinda grungy, so how can I take the grunge away, (not clean), just spice it back up. I read on another post about oil and then just doing hours of polishing. Anyone got suggestions, once again not for resale and not to look mint, takes away the character, just a little nicer for a lack of a better word. One other question did they mint mark any of the steels, mine has know mint mark and since Im going to the coin shop today thought I might see about completing the set? Also fair price suggestions. Thanks in advance for any help.
Don't try to clean it. You will find a nicer one. I found 15 in one roll one time. They can be bought for 10 - 20 cents. Not worth trying to make yours look better.
P, D & S are the mint marks
You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK
Yes, the steel pennies are available with a D & an S mintage as well as the plain version. In fact I had just found my first 1943 S penny yesterday. This is my third steel penny but my first with a mint mark.
Happy hunting!
P.S. I like your sign in numbers. The one in my 1972 SS works very well!
