I’ve seen these for sell on eBay from time to time and curious to know what everyone thinks about the Silver Suisse ingot. Most if the time there seems to be a fairly steep premium. Do you think it is worth it? What say you??
** Note the serial number is on the bar but has been blanked out for the picture.

I would pass on this ingot. Has the serial number been removed? If it is scratched off could it be that the seller(s) don't want tracibility because it may be stolen goods? |

Well if you can get it for a lower value than what you normally have to pay and you like it, go for it.
Myself 10ozer's are about the biggest I buy... |

If you feel that the seller is honest and it not to much over spot go for it. |

I'd buy it if I had the chance. I'd be happy if the premium was less than 10% of today's spot. |

I guess my question for the board was when you look at silver bars...
Do you rank one more valuable or desirable to have over the other? If so why? What are the driving factors?
For sake of this discussion let’s say everything is the same price. So, would you buy Suisse over Engelhard or Engelhard over Sunshine Mint etc.
I have noticed people seem to like the odd bars too like the 3 oz Engelhard or the fat Swiss of America rounds and will pay more of a premium for those.
Is it the oddity driving the price? What do you think?

You may want to check and see what sort of premium it would bring when you SOLD it to say a coin dealer (to avoid shipping), Ampex, Kitco or others. My experience has been, silver bullion is silver bullion and they all sell for about the same on silver, Palladium and gold may be a bit different. Exceptions would of course be things like Silver Eagles, which are not numismatic items, but bring a premium when sold, usually. |

Yes, I rank 1 bar over another bar. The reason is because certain companies are more reputable than other companies. Typically people are more willing to pay for "peace of mind" than having to question if their XYZ bar is pure silver. However, even with one of the most reputable companies around (Englehard) their 100oz bars even get faked!
Would I pay a huge premium for the credit suisse bar in the picture just because its hard to find? No, because at the end of the day its still just a kilo bar. There is no real garuntee that another person is going to see the "numismatic" value of the bar. For things like Englehard prospectors vrs a generic round I will pay more for the englerhard because I know I will get more for it than I will for the generic round. |

If you can get it for almost no premium I would say go for it. Christmas is coming and that thing would be great for cracking nuts. Usually, the bigger the bar, the lower the premium. Don't be sucked in by individuals paying too much for something on eBay. Those markets seem to change as soon as you have the item that was hot. You also need to factor in the ebay and PayPal fees. Remember when copper pennies used to fetch over 2 cents each on eBay? Check current prices. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
