Once they get up over 150 pounds or so I have a hard time shaking them. I don't even fill the bags.. just put 300,000 in one.. then start another.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Like Slick mentioned. A fair amount of shake and rattle and have been able to get 30,000 prized gems in those beautiful bright orange buckets. First ton was done very tight in 10 of these beauties. The subsequent were packed looser and take 11 buckets ea/ton. Easier to pack and still get the lid to function.

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.

I'm rolling mine and putting them back into the boxes I got them in, then putting them in my rental storage unit. Does anyone have any experience with how high you can stack them without crushing the bottom ones? I like the idea of keeping them in the $25 boxes as opposed to the five gallon buckets, but I'm just a small hoarder at this point in time.

Hoard now and hold on!

That is because you are old and weak

Stack them like a brick wall and make them 2 boxes thick, that way you can turn them sideways on top of each other to make the stacks stronger. As long as you are not column stacking, you should be able to stack them pretty high.

You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

I have a little experience at that. You can stack them pretty high without crushing the bottom ones.

You just have to worry about them toppling over when you get too high.

The big quesion is.. Why a rental storage unit? You can probably replace whatever you are storing later for the cost of the rental fees. You could give the stuff away or sell it.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Slick is right.. both about me being old and weak.. and about the stacking method. I just don't have enough to need to stack them that way.

I just saw an ad for a ton of pennies on ebay. The seller uses CoinLok bags. Does any one else use these and are they suitable for long term storage? Got my Ryedale today. Works like a champ. I woke up in the middle of the night and couldnt sleep so I tried it out on some jars Ive had for years. WOW is that quick.

OOOOOO. I like that photo. My concrete is not that dry. I am going to the local scrap yard to buy a scrap aluminum ladder to use under my hoard. The aluminum may corrode a little but it will not wick moisture into my boxes. I sound like a bit of a neat freak.

Those look like unsorted boxes.

I like to reroll using an automatic coin counter/sorter and store in the $25 bank boxes they come in.

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.

When I give my two cents, they're always copper!

thanks for this tip. this is how I have decided to store my small hoard. it works perfectly - 6 Brinks boxes = about 100 lbs in a Scoop Away bucket with handle.

Very observant 2old. That is one of my incoming stacks. Sometimes they sit like that for a week or two. My concrete is dry, but if I were going to store them longer than that they would be stacked on a pallet.

I store in the brinks boxes then put them in a 30 caliber ammo can. You can put 12 boxes in one ammo can. I also have several military foot lockers that will hold about 24 boxes easily. I just put in that amount because of the weight.

For my coppers I'm using a mango chutney barrel that held 6.5 gallons of chutney.

Last time I weighed it it was just about 2/3's full and 270 lbs.

Nickel wise I'm just using a Ziploc baggie that's almost full at 10 lbs.

I store mine lose in 50 Cal SAW ammo cans (Jumbo 50 Cans),

Like this

Why, the cans are an investment too, as Obama is looking to end the release of ammo cans and other things directly from the military.

I store mine in the canvas bag that I get from the banks. Fifty dollars per bag. I have lots of bags to fill because I find about 30% copper and the left overs go back to the bank loose.

Megaman, not sure what you mean or what you have heard, but PVC is a plastic chemical, PVC pipes are primarily composed of the stuff, I know if you store silver in them it turns them black(but no corrosion).

Look up Corrosion first, learn what that is. THen don't let anyone tell you that corrosion is just 'toning'.

Green stuff on the coin is most commonly corrosion.

I'm not sure what reaction PVC can have to copper, but you would primarily only have to worry about it if you are storing them in plastic containers.

I think there are a few other plastic chemicals that can react negatively, as in low grade(cheap) coin flips.

Best thing to do is to check with a local coin club and learn from their wisdom on bad storage combinations.

Hey, even if the copper is green corroded, don't dump it/throw it away, just put it in its own bucket/box/bag for cheap melting copper later(either to sell to the scrap yard or whatever...once that becomes legal this bag will be the first to go).

"May your percentages ever increase!"

I rolled $900+ worth of coins this last weekend and ended up putting them in old .30 cal ammo cans. Quarters lay in there in perfect rows of 10 rolls and will stack up 7 deep. Dimes leave enough room along the side to place an extra row perpendicular to the main row. For my silver coins, I use the square plastic (Nylon?) coin tubes and then stack them inside the .30 cal ammo cans. The .30 cal ammo cans work nice as a full one is still readily carried without back strain. I take the filled cans and stack them in the bottom of my gun safe.

I store mine rolled in the bank boxes. I also have some in old cigar boxes. Not as practical, but a little more interesting.

I just toss them all over the floor....

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

I don't see any problem with rolling coins, even for long term storage. Personally, I sort my copper pennies by date so that when it comes time to sell them, I can do so and keep the dates from mixing with ease so that I can get more for the earlier date wheat pennies than I do for the pre 82 lincoln memorials. I also like knowing what I have, so rolling the coins by date makes it easier to keep track of them as well.
