Well, I had to pass through town today for work, and since I didn't get enough pennies last Friday, I figured I would drop by my source bank and get $100 or so. I did ask Friday if they had any halves, and bought all $10 that they had, which turned out to be a skunk. So I didn't think they would have anymore halves and wasnt going to ask.
As, I'm paying the lady for the pennies and dreaming of wheats and indians, she tells me that she has some halves. I ask how much did she have and she sais $320. I've only got $203 left on me after buying the pennies, so I ask her if 1 man brought all these in. Yes. Was he an older man? Yes. I'm thinking now that these are dumps from a guy who hunts on occasion in my area. But, reluctantely I buy 20 rolls and head out. I get stopped at a red-light and decide to crack one. Hmmm, 2 90% and 5 40%. The next was even better, giving up 7 90% and 2 40%ers.
Without hesitation, I turn right around to the nearest ATM and withdraw another $200 and head back to the bank. I picked up the rest and went back to work. Let me tell you, this was the slowest work day ever anticipating the search. Here is what $320 CWR yielded:
51- 90% all 1964 57- 40%
What I thought was odd was every roll that had a 64, had at least 1 more to go with it. I only had 2 skunk rolls in all, and it was kind of hard to believe. I had to double check to make sure there wasnt anything hiding from me, lol. The best roll of all gave up 11 90% and 4 40%ers. Dont loose faith yet, the silver santa is very real and you never know when he'll show up! -Mike
And to think, I was gonna turn these down thinking they were dumps! I sure am glad now I didn't! Keep hunting everyone!

We all keep on hoping that we will have finds like that and with more people cashing in coins this maybe one of the last great go around for finding silver in the wild. |

Very nice score!
It just seems strange to me that older folks who have had these silver halves for a long time and grew up in the era when silver coins were circulating just don't seem to know they have something more valuable than face. Maybe it has something to do with the switch between the franklin and kennedy halves, maybe they think the silver content ended with the franklin halves and all the kennedy halves are clad.

That was my thoughts too. Makes you wonder though, how many Franklins and Walking liberty's the guy might have kept? I sure hope those show up next week! Probably not though... |

B-I-N-G-OHHHHHHHHHHH so sweet!!! |
The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities. |
