For long term storage, I'm putting my copper in 4 gal-ish buckets with lids. I get these at the local donut shop for $2. They get a ton on them for frosting, fillings, etc. Most retail bucket+lids are about $7.....$2 is a lot cheaper......might even get them for free if they just toss them out.
Living the frugal life....has saved me a lot of $....

Great idea! I've gotten four free buckets with lids within the past two months. It never hurts to just ask. Many grocery stores with bakeries have empty frosting buckets that they're just going to throw out. And they're food grade, too in case you want to stash away wheat, rice, dried beans, etc. Only downside is that the frosting buckets are a bear to clean. One bakery the lady even spent 5 minutes cleaning the bucket for us and for free, too!

Hopefully there are not donuts left at the bottom.

By the way - these buckets smell awesome! Some are strawberry filling, some are apple....they smell great.....two of my favorite things.....copper and the smell of donuts. |

Other sources of buckets:
Laundry Detergent- we get our detergent in buckets. it's cheaper and you get a bucket on top of it. Chlorine sticks- we've recently switched over to salt for our pool, but our chlorine sticks came in buckets Sheetrock mud- i had a buddy who hung alot of sheetrock or drywall or whatever you may call it. i got a few buckets from him, but you want to try to get the buckets before the mud dries. Otherwise you'll need a good chisel or screwdriver and some time. Hydrolic fluid- if you don't have much use for hydrolic fluid, you could find a logging operation and ask them to save you a few. They usually just leave them in the woods. You'll even be helping the environment. Farms also use it for thier tractors but in less quantity and the buckets are usually reused. |

I got something like that at an icecream stand for 50 cents. But I use Whey protein power containers now instead.
