Most here would rather have physical possession of their silver and gold -- me included. But, in addition to holding physical silver and gold, does anyone have advice on a good silver or gold stock or a good precious metal mutual fund?

I am reluctant to mention the gold fund I am invested in due to all of the shenanigans that took place in the 90's, where people would sing praises of XYZ company on the web and then dump it once the suckers bought up the shares.

Also, I have a feeling once I mention my stock I will jinx it (SEC investigates it, the price falls, company's bigwigs get busted for inside trading, etc)

I guess the silver or gold ETF might be a good way to own paper gold or silver.

I should have chosen "Cut-n-Paste" as a forum name, since that is what I do, mostly.

I was starting to think about the same thing though being in the uk i'm not sure how easy it is to buy american shares.but if i do decide i'm going to i will more than likely just dive in.I will probably go for sterling mining shares not because i've done loads of reasearch or anything but because they own sunshine mining(and i like their bars)add
to that they are cheap $4.02 so plenty of scope..but please dont go spending your money after reading this.I state plainly now"I do not own
any sterling mining shares it is just an idea that i might get some before everything heads skyward more because i want to than because of any great financial insight i may or may not have-i like shares to be cheap that way i can get lots and if they go tits-up i dont end up living in some derelict part of eastern europe because i would'nt be able to afford life in britain any more!!

SLV = Silver ETF (physical silver in vault backing the fund).
GLD = Gold ETF
HL = Hecla Silver Mining
SLV = Silver Wheaton Mining
CDE = Coeur D'Alene Silver Miner
PAAS = Pan American Silver
SSRI = Silver Standard Resources

For some great mutual funds, Frank Holms has a bunch - the family of funds is US Global Investors: You must be logged in to see this link. Frank is a metals master. They have a lot of awesome funds - there are 3 I like and have: there is a precious minerals fund, a gold fund and I like the commodity fund that also has metals, energy, etc...

Until this week, a lot of these funds were up 50% year to date...
