I saw someone on another forum who is up to 14 this year; I don't recall anyone here getting one since I've been here.
It's definitely a goal of mine; I'm going to try a road trip in March to the desolate interior of the state in an effort to find one, if I don't find one by then.

I've seen them show up, but can't talk a teller out of one. One teller told me last year they used to show up in bags of Ikes a customer used to order, but impossible to get a bank to order them anymore. I also imagine you'd have to go through a LOT of Ikes to find one. |

I have gotten 1 morgan and 2 peace dollars before. I always ask for Ike dollars and they just happen to be in the "big dollar" pile. My score on a dollar coin though would have to be an ASE! |

the tellers around here are to smart to let anything good get by them. in my bank hunts, it takes about 40 banks to find loose silver. just not worth it. I just keep trying my luck with boxes. |

if you search on realcent, someone posted a link to a pdf of a Federal Reeserve Coin ordering document. Its theoretically possible for banks to order dollar coins from the fed, assuming they have them. you are talknig a bag of 1 or 2 thousand though, and you would have to convice your banker to spend the time to figure out how to do this. i have the doc bookmarked somewhere but i can't find it at this time. I got the impression that these were large dollars, e.g. ikes or better, but you'd want to make sure you weren't getting Susan B. Anthonys if you did this.
update - i googled this and certain banks have the ability to order Ikes. $1000 a bag. details are here: You must be logged in to see this link. you can't specify morgans or peace but you could get lucky and find some mixed in. |
Buying: Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00 copper cents at 1.3X wheat pennies at 3X

Its nearly impossible to get a bank to order IKE's for you though. That is simply because most people don't know that they can do this and that they don't know what an Ike is. |

I bought some Ike's at a bank about a month ago...they were loose (10 of them). While the teller was counting them out she said "Oh! I think this one's silver". Before she could think, I gave her $10 and said I will take them all. It was a silver Peace Dollar very worn with no date but silver nonetheless. |

The very first time I asked for "dollars" I received several Ikes and a Peace!
Since then nothing (of course I gave up quickly). |

Got a Peace today, but the teller wouldn't let it go for less then melt. I still bought it.
Tellers will most of the time get these and keep them. This teller also told me that someone brought in 260 Morgans and Peaces a few months ago. One of the tellers bought them all out of the drawer and,,, well you know the rest...

I was stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, TX in 2006. While I was there I roll hunted, as far as I know, without competition, for about 6 months. In my time there I found 2 Morgans, 1 Peace, and 1 silver ike. The Ike came at a small bank and the teller offered it to me while I was buying halves. At another bank, they said they had a thousand dollar bag of halves when I asked about buying large dollars. Unfortunately for me, I said I only wanted to buy the large dollars out of the bag. They cracked it open and counted out the large dollars. I heard them clinking a little silver behind the counter. When they came out they had about $200 large dollars, and my particular teller had the 3 silver dollars seperated. She was not too happy when I asked for "all" of the large dollar coins. I wasnt happy either, when she would only consent to selling me 1 of the coins.
The lesson I learned was, buy the whole danged bag! Dont give the tellers an opportunity to get between you and the silver. And always be polite, even if they arent. |

I don't understand how you got $200 in large dollars out of a $1000 bag of halves. |

Our coin counters at the bank do not take "large dollars"
However, this does not stop the occasional user to throw them in with the piggy bank.
The large coins get stuck inside. I had a teller assist me to change bags and the teller found a very smooth Peace dollar stuck and when she pulled it out, she handed it to me.
The one and only.

My guess would be the morgan was a CC and that all 3 coins will be fake. |

That was me. The info is on page 9.

But as mentioned, it may be a genuine challenge to find a competent bank manager willing to put forth the effort for you. Most of the under 30 crowd have no idea that coin ever existed.
One of my supply banks actually has a very nice, outgoing, sharp motivated manager who is very supportive of my sorting endeavors. Every body in there is the same way, they always save wheats and old Canadians for me. I was thinking about talking to her about ordering a bag.
But I don't have that kind of capitol to tie up. One can only spend so many at a time to get rid of them. The TCF coin counters won't take them either.

Regarding finding Morgan or Peace dollars in circulation, I have not. But I have seen 2 1980's walking liberty silver dollars in circulation within the last 18 months. I got one in great condition in a batch of 7 Ike's that the teller tried to sell me as 50-cent pieces, and the other about 3 weeks ago the teller had pulled, and wanted to know what it was. It was fairly scratched, tho not worn; she sold it for $18 to a local coin shop. |

You've seen what? Do you mean SAE's? Please clarify.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. I bought a nice peace dollar out of the grocery store drawer. The kids don't know what they are and will readily give up that "wierd" thing for an easily recognizable green back.
I teach them how to edge sort the dimes and quarters and offer extra to call me. I pick up 5 to 10 coins a month this way for 4x to 6x. |

What do you think the odds are of finding silver in a bag of Ikes? I did the math once and it come out to less than half a percent of the circulating halves are silver. So i average about 5 per box of $500. |
