Are any of you sorting out the 2009 pennies and turning around and reselling them?
I know the unopened rolls have a premium but is it worth hoarding a big pile of individual BU 2009 pennies in the hopes of reselling them?

I'm saving them as well, but not for profit. Some of the tellers at my source banks have asked about them and I keep em for them. Always nice to stay in good graces with a source bank you don't even have an acct with right? |

As I sort through my $50 bags of cents, yes, I am saving the 09's - some to keep & some to sell. The Cabins are still the most rare round here but the current bag has a nice number of shiny AU ones. Even keeping 08's as well for same idea.
Just got a LP3 cent the other night as change @ McDonalds, so they are coming! |

I'm sorting out the BU's that I don't have. So far I have eBay-ed about 10 boxes of LP3 D, all of these have been picked up by going to banks and asking "Do you have any boxes of pennies that you can sell to me?" About 1/4 of the time they give me a box of new ones. I have set aside one box for myself and list the rest. I have been lucky so far and get about double face value. Since I have 2,500 LP3s from Denver, I save all other BU 2009s that I find. I plan to make sets of 4 once I get my hands on a box of LP4. Now, the question for ya'll - does telling you this violate the 'keep your mouth shut' rule that I have read on this forum?
I would like everyone that reads a thread to make a comment. You are a much better source of info than anything else that I have found.

I can't believe you disclosed you have a penny collection! That is unheard of on realcent. I, on the other hand, will never admit to owning any pennies. |

No one here collects pennies. Oh sure, we have a couple to put in nice cardboard displays, but none keep thousands of pennies here. |

I am saving them if they are in perfect condition, I'm not reselling at this time though. I have dumped as many as I have saved though. I am starting to get them in pocket change now. Most have stains or fingerprints or heavy scratches.

Nope, not me.. I don't have any pennies.. or cents.
And I don't have to worry about saving the new 09's from circulation, 'cause there are none in circulation here. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

They seem pretty rare around here I've been doing this for 6 months and have gotten about 2 rolls worth of cabins and one roll of axes and have yet to find an LP3. I am saving them, but I don't have enough to sell on ebay and by the time I do I won't be able to sell them. Still if I have to through them all in the zinc bin someday so be it. I have a friend that does Wheres george and he says currency in Michigan seems to stay here rather than passing through. We are a long way from Philly and Denver. |

There is still money in MI? With all the bad news I would have thought the money would have left the state. |

Do loose LP 1 through 3's sell on here? I always see the boxes or rolls selling but not loose coins. |

I kept seeing a fellow picking up partial boxes at a bank I get boxes at. Come to find out, he is getting bags of 5,000 at the same S&L that wanted to charge me $2.50 extra a box for Brinks boxes. He retired there as a custodian. He is looking for errors on circulated log splitters and other 1982 and after Zincolns. So I trade him the bags of Zincolns I produce for bags that he has taken 30-40 coins out of and replaced. In turn I give him a roll of 50 circulated log splitters that I have picked out while sorting. This will work until I run out of log splitters. Does anyone know of the error he is looking for? |

I have seen some listed on ebay but didn't look at the specifics. |

L3s are pretty common where I'm at. I've sold about 15 boxes of them and still have 3 boxes I can't get rid of. |

Although I am currently unemployed it my opinion that Michigan is not as bad as the media makes it out to be. Our unemployment rates is only about 5% higher than the national average (14.5% compared to 9.5%). I have seen my copper rate go up a few percent, but I honestly did not expect it. I thought by now most people would have turned in there old jar of pennies since although the rest of the country has been in a recession for just over a year Michigan has been in a recession since about 2002. |
