I dumped 13,350 zincs today. My dump bank has a coin counter. I ended up with 12 rejects that would not go through. I took a good look at them and they are all thick. They are not as thin as regular pennies. So - what do I do with them? Spend them and get my 12 cents worth? Start a thick zinc collection? Various dates 1993 - 2007.

Put them on a digital scale and weigh them. Is it possible they were made on extra thick plancets or possibly plancets meant for a foreign coin?
Hope that free coin counter wasn't a CoinStar.. that is a pretty good sized dump. |

Hoard,
My last Coinstar dump was 17,500. It took an hour. My wife wants a Kindle from Amazon, so I needed the gift card. I don't know about the thick zincs. I just run coins through 30-40 times until the machine accidentally takes the ones it doesn't want. |
Just my two cents! |

An hour sounds about right for that many. Their website claims 600 coins per minute, but actual count rate is closer to 300 CPM.
They have a free coinstar at my credit union. I try not to do significant dumps there. It kills me to stand in front of a machine that runs 10 times slower than the ones I have at home.
Careful when trying to forcefeed it the rejects. Do a count next time. You may find that it is eating them, but not giving you credit for them. |

$175/hr = 291.67/min
Yeah, try to find a CU that has the big Da La Rue machine. It is running around 2500/min. I can dump $700+ and be gone in about 1/2 hour. It just depends on how fast the girls change the bags. The 2 that i use the most have nice couches across from the machine, so I just kick back and relax while they change the bags. I also try to chat with the ladies, throw out a nice compliment when it is appropriate. Gotta stay on their good side if you want to continue to dump large quantities of zinc. |

lol.. finding a CU with any machine in my area is like trying to find buzzard cents in my sorting. Good thing I have that pair of Mach 7's sitting side by side each cranking out 4,000 coins a minute. |
