Every now and then I like to buy a bag of foreign coins or even coins that have been sorted and carded with the country name and date. My question is: What is a fair price to pay? I see a wild variance on eBay and feel like you are buying the preverbal “pig in a poke.” Plain and simple I don’t want to get taken but just want to amass a decent go mix of foreign coins and have some fun. Any suggestions?
It depends on what countries you are buying. Are you buying recent coins or older ones? If you know the country and what kind of coins you are getting, you can get a rough idea what the currency value would be in dollars.
The things that will destroy America are prosperity-at-any-price, peace-at-any-price, safety-first instead of duty-first, the love of soft living, and the get-rich-quick theory of life. – Theodore Roosevelt
Check what the range is on completed auctions. Read the feedback of the regular sellers. Assume all will be common. Don't pay too much. Assume all pics are of the best stuff.. and meant to entice you to bid. Actual silver in the mix is rare. Higher exchange value coins are rare. Factor shipping cost into the purchase price. Be sure to check the Buy it Now and Auction sections of this forum. I have seem some great deals being had there. Have fun!
