Does any one have a thought about the 2009 Kennedy Half Dollars? Last year was the lowest mintage of the series ever at 1.7 million for each mint, and according to the latest mintage figures I have seen (As of April 2009) there have been the same amount of halves made as last year. Seeing as they have already stopped making dimes and nickles, I can't imagine that they would need to make any more half dollars. I wonder if people may overlook the half dollars this year with so much attention going to the pennies and territory quarters. Anyway, what do you think? Will the 2009 halves end up being a key date?

A good question, that I unfortunately can't answer.
How have the 2008 halves done?
What is the easiest way to obtain BU rolls? without paying out the wazooo!??? |

I just don't see the collector/investor demand for these NIFC halves. 1.7 million halves is a lot of halves.
While scarcer than normal, I don't think any of the 2009 coins will be key dates unless there is long term demand by collectors for them. I think the 2009 nickels and the low mintage 2009 territorial quarters offer the best opportunity for price appreciation. If investors hoard these and take them off the market, like they did with the 1950-D nickels, you could make some money by putting some rolls away.

Wolvesdad - The highest I have seen the 2008 halves go for is $66.00 plus $4.75 shipping on ebay for two rolls (one of each mint). Unfortunately, the only way I know to get them is from the mint for $32.95 for two rolls, which is 12.95 over face. Still, $66 is double what they originally went for.
Country - Those are good points. I wish I could find some rolls of 2009 nickles, but maybe the Virgin Islands quarter will be a little easier to find when it comes out. It might even have a smaller mintage than American Samoa, from what I've gathered. |

| I've got a 3 rolls of 2009-P Puerto Rico and around 40 rolls of 2009-P Guam territorial quarters from banks. I have not been able to find any Samoas. Have you found any Samoas at a bank? Perhaps the mint will be selling these instead of providing them to banks. |

| I got 5 rolls of the American Samoas from a Wachovia in Western North Carolina. Interestingly, right down the road from that bank The State Employs Credit Union bank was limiting them to 5 quarters to person, so I guess it just depends on the bank. They seemed to have plenty at Wachovia though. |

I think it will only be a key date if they stop producing the coin. Otherwise, it's just another low mintage NIFC. |
