I have been trying to obtain boxes of the new Lincoln cents. So far I have gotten 10 boxes from retailers, but now I have basically been cut off. I have visited at least 15 bank branches asking about rolls of ANY new coins, they say, they seldom see any.
Any ideas where an individual can obtain boxes of new coins othe than paying 3X face value on eBay?

Except for a few Pennies and D.C. Quarters '09's don't exist in my neck of the woods. I've been asking weekly at banks since March and get told they don't have access to ANY '09's. I have received my Proof and Silver Proof sets from the mint, but they don't count when you are looking to buy rolls of business strikes at face. |

It is odd. I have been on a mission to find NEW ROLLS of coins. I know you can order some issues from the mint, but I have found ony three rolls of 2008 cents at a gas station and then I was able to aquire about ten boxes of 50 rolls of 2009 Lincoln's from a retailer who has now shut me and everyone else off. They said theirs came from Brinks, I called Brinks at the same location and got no where. Tried twice. I have been collecting coins for over 40 years and never thought about saving new rolls until this year. Other than I bought 10 rolls of new silver Roosevelt dimes in about 1996 at a ANA Convention.
A dealer called me last night and said a fellow in California had as many $25.00 boxes as I wanted for $75.00 a box, plus shipping. I am thinking he wears a Brinks uniform. |

You could try asking banks on the phone what they have to save travel costs. I don't really seek out the mint rolls of newer stuff but I'll save it when it comes my way. Lately I seem to be getting a lot of (canadian) 2009 dimes. |

I think you did really well to get 10 boxes from a retailer before they cut you off. I can never get more than a couple of rolls.. and they are never new. How do you get 10 boxes from a retailer?
You could get them cheaper than eBay in the Buy/Sell section of this forum. If you don't see what you want, just post a wanted ad. I have bought and sold lots of new coins with other members for below 3x.
I regularly hit several banks and have limited success getting new coins (despite my number of scores in the first find contest) The new coin game is an interesting challenge. Whoever can get them first in quantity can get the highest price for them. As soon as most folks can get them, the market price drops significantly.
Was that hoard of new zinc in Northern CA or Southern CA? Maybe I can negotiate a large purchase, save the shipping charges and pass some savings on to fellow members. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I'm going to try around a bit today.... this is a growing area and I've seen a bit of new already. But the 4 rolls of new dimes I got last week were 2008s. |

2OLD Where do you live? I think some banks in certain areas have nothing but the new boxes. The Houston area is flooded with the new pennies. |

I live in a rural area in Ohio. But, I roam around a lot and I have actually tried 15 banks or more in larger cities. I am not selling these, it is more of a curiosity for me now. In the beginning, I wanted 2 boxes of each to put into my Treasure Chest for my 2 sons. I have an old chest that I am filling up with odd things like that so that when I kick the bucket, they will have some fun finding it. Now it is a mission to find out where all these new coins go. I have contacted Brinks, The Cleveland Fed Bank, 2 bank presidents I know and all seem to be clueless. Or, so they say. I tend to believe the bankers, they are not coin collectors and if they thought they could find some to sell me and make a buck, they would. |

I did not ask the location of the boxes in California. Dunno how to do quote yet but:

For real there are some methods to aquire new coins of all sorts. At a coin show a lady and her husband sell almost nothing but new coins of all denominations in MS grades. They have a really large amount of them. Getting to know them after a few years they revealed their secretes. They both work in banks. Like the said, if you really want new coins, asking for them at a bank is a waste of time. Do one of the following: 1. Get a job in a bank 2. Get a job at the Federal Researve 3. Marry someone that works in a bank 4. Have numerous relatives get jobs in banks 5. Get married, have lots and lots of kids, raise them all to work in banks. 6. Win the a lottery, use the money to open your own bank. |

Yep. That about sums it up.

One other Option - Volunteer or Get on the board of a financial institution. I am the Treasurer of a $50 million dollar credit union. |

And how is that working out for you? I don't remember you coming up with massive amounts of boxes of new coins. Credit Unions don't usually get new coins, do they? |
