| The video I would like to see is that of one of the heavy hitters in here, down at the IRS paying his or her entire federal income tax bill in pennies. Give them the zincolns, of course. Anyone interested? |
Just my two cents! |

Do you honestly want to tempt the Government to mess with you?
Do you honestly think they would not potentially decide to take vengeance?
And do you honestly think you could avoid that vengeance? |

I would happily do it. I just have no chance of coming up with enough cents to do so.
Barrytrot, the IRS cannot refuse or take any such vengeance without undermining the law. Doing so would hasten the elimination of the cent. As soon as the government, itself, would show that the cent is no longer legal tender, how could it expect anyone else to continue to use it? |

#1 The Government breaks the law/Constitution EVERY day. You are wise to realize they aren't your friends and don't play by any rules other than their whim at the time.
#2 According to IRS rules to accept cash they must "count the cash CAREFULLY in the presence of the tax payer."
That alone is punishment enough if you owe more than a couple hundred dollars.

#3 There are several historical examples where the Government has either refused to take cents/change or charged a surcharge to do so or clearly and arbitrarily punished! I did a quick Google search, here are a few examples:

NOTE: There are a lot more examples of bad things happening to those that pay with cents.
To be fair there are some successful examples as well.
Here is a success story: You must be logged in to see this link.
Do not tempt the Government into putting you on one of the many lists they keep of people to either kill or harass. |

I've seen a couple of articles in the recent few weeks on Coinflation about people trying to pay for something with legal US Money and it either being refused or getting the police called on them.
Can't remember entire circumstances but one recently was a gentleman that liked to use our $2.00 bills as he felt they spoke volumes about our current situation. He was the one the police were called to come.
The most recent one, was last week, I think and it was two young girls with their mom wanting to spend their piggy banks of about $5.00 each to pay for a toy they had chosen to spend their hard saved coins on at a Target store. The cashier refused to accept their loose US coins for payment.
So...anything is possible anymore.
Edited for spelling correction. Don't get old--brains start to malfunction! |

| Good articles, Barry. I do not wish to paint myself as being an anarchist. I just think it would be funny to see a video of someone trying. I would imagine that the serious hoarders would come to the conclusion that doing so would not be very wise. Nobody wants to be on one of those lists, labeled as a rabble-rouser. |

Just a thought.......if this offer is still open and any of you are serious about trying to do it.
What about making a purchase of school supplies that would benefit teachers/classrooms, etc. Make the purchase, make a charitable donation for tax purposes, and claim the prize on here.
Enjoy. |

Those of you who have met me understand, I don't mind making a specticle of myself or being stared at. I like funny looks, and pushing buttons.
Pretty much how I feel about it.

Live free or die. Plain and simple.
"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." - Samuel Adams |

Did a scouting trip to Office Max today. Tough to find much I want to buy there. I like PreservingThePast's suggestion about getting school suppllies and donating them. I did a big shopping trip to do that a couple of weeks ago at Wally World. They were filling up a police cruiser and making up packages for local families. I could always buy a box of crayons for every RealCent member. They were only a penny a box.. but the shipping would kill me. |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available. |

I may be eons from the crayons and coloring book portion of my life, but I still love the smell of a brand new box of crayons!
Spending pennies to help out teachers and their classrooms would certainly garner a lot of publicity, especially if word happened to "leak out" with enough advance notice for the media to arrive. Sounds like a win/win situation to me.
From a former school volunteer/teacher's aide, tutor, etc. I say thanks for the contribution you already made to further the education of those who will be running our country when we are most at their mercy--in our declining years.

I am thinking of sending a stack of the boxes of crayons to Nate and then whenever one of us does a deal with a member their box of crayons could ride with the coins or bullion. |
