I was on vacation last week and did not get any pennies that week or the prior week.
So monday I go looking for pennies. I went to 3 of the 4 CU's that I get bags from.
1st one had $250...sweet 2nd one had $400.....REALLY ???? Head teller was off and they had 2 weeks worth. 3rd one....1 mile from home....$600....WHAT?? HUH??? Ok load them up.
Were the head tellers at a conference the week before? Are they holding to reduce pickup fees?
So I got $1250 from 3 Credit Unions. I am usually happy getting $500 from the 3.
So after about 3 hours of running the Ryedales I was done.
Now time to return $900 of zincs
This is what I will feel like when I am done

I tried to use my Credit Union to dump my halves. My Credit Union is a mile away from my source bank. Using a few marked coins, I soon found out that they used Brinks just like my source bank. Nothing more disgusting than getting your own dumps back. |

getting your dumps back does suck. I noticed it is about a 2-3 week turn around before I start seeing them again. but I do get the good box every now and then so I just keep at it.
I buy from one CU and dump at a different one.
I have found 4 branches that will sell the bags. |

I have a question for anyone who 'regularly' uses a 'credit union' to pick up pennies. Currently my 'modus operendi' (sp?) is to visit several different banks and get 10 - 20 rolls from each bank (I do it this way because I 'hand sort' .
I don't use credit unions ... are they a 'better' place than banks to pick up pennies? Can one get several rolls rather than a 'bag'? Appreciate the 'experts' insight regarding credit unions vs. banks for penny rolls. Thanks!

| Credit Unions typically don't have business customers, so they will be less likely to order pennies to have on hand for members. They will typically get more pennies from their members, just because businesses typically use pennies and regular people tend to turn them in. Since all their members will be regaulr people you have more Customer Wrapped Rolls. Of course this all depends on what size they are, as they tend to be smaller than banks. |

I love my 2 CU's! I have 1 I pick-up $50 bags from and the other gladly takes my zincs. The nice lady at the pick-up CU even said she would take back whatever I did not want, but I told her "I wouldn't do that to you!". Yes, CU's ususally only get coins from customers and not many, if any, businesses. The up side is that I get the bags with loose cents - no rolls! I may get more than one $50 bag one day like Slickeast as soon as I increase my income visibility! |

Nothing better than a good relationship with a Credit Union(s) that have coin machines. They will generally save you the bags and gladly accept the dumps, at a diferent branch of course, hehe. Mine will order boxes, but I don't want to mess with the hassel of opening the rolls. Plenty of bags any way.

I do not go to CU's. One time I asked for ONE roll of quarters, and they said they did not think they had that much. I figured they would not be good for my hobby. |

That's your problem. Only one try. You've gotta spread your action around. Try agian. You can't beat a good CU.

Did you ask them to order a box for you? Develop a relationship with them and they might contact you when they get coin in.
My source credit union orders boxes of anything I want - no charge. They also call me any time they have CWR. My dump credit union has coin counting machines, which are free to members. When the machines fill up, they will close a teller line and empty the machine, even when there is a long line. The dump credit union has locations near my office and my home. |

| I went the credit union today and tried to get a $100 box of cents but they would have to charge me since I did not have a business account. I did manage to get 20 rolls. I had 6 wheats, 61 coppers & 1 Canada in the first 4 rolls! I think I am off to a great start. I am hand sorting on my spare time. |
