On Springfield's Tourist site it says attendence is 5000 max. Myself hopes it will be 100deg and raining so very few people come out. 20deg and snowing owuld be fine too...
My family will be there to get as many as possible. I will be the guy with the kids complaining about standing in line so their Dad can hoard all the rolls. :)
They just better have enough rolls so I can get at least 50 rolls... |

| With Dick Durbin there, I wonder if anyone will try to ask him about the great Health Care plan in Congress that he supports? |

The Springfield cent release went very well I thought. I & my wife only got 6 rolls each - but later at the main PO I saw a guy walk in with two $25 boxes of cents. Boy, I bet the PO clerk was overjoyed to see him walk in! |

Just got back to Indy. I got 18 rolls and my wife got 6, so a 24 count total. The post office was a mess. You would have thought they learnned from the Lincoln City, IN event. Investin Cents and I met, and talked for a while, and then another guy who doesn't do any posts on Realcents, but spends a lot of time here heard me talking and asked if I had a Ryedale and we talked for quite a while. Never met up with Oober, but I bet I saw him, and maybe have pictures of him. There was only 1 post office stamping the rolls, but there were 2 in the same vinicinity. I wen to the bigger one and they had a sign on the inside that you had to go to the other post office. The other post office only had 2 people stamping the rolls, and several people were going to miss out, becasue the post office locks the doors at 5 PM, whether you are waiting or not. I left at 3:30 PM and the line was at least 2 hours long.
Of the 24 rolls only 2 were head-head. I think 2 were tails-tails. A lot better than the Lincoln City, IN event, where I had even split of 6 H-H, 6 T-T, and 6 H-T. I also believe there were a lot less people in Springfield, IL than Lincoln City. Maybe 1,500 - 2,000 people were in Springfield. 3,000 were in Lincoln City. They only had 4 pallets of pennies. It looked like 5 rows per pallet. If there were 20 boxes per row, that would be a total of 20,000 rolls. If there were 1,500 people there, then that is 13 rolls a person. It looked like they had a lot more pennies in Lincoln City, than Springfield.
If you go to the Washington DC event - have exact change. They were only taking exact change for a while. I was lucky as the last time thru the line I gave a $20 and they gave me change. They barely had enough change for me, because they were stuffing the $ in secured boxes. Get the stamps ahead of time. |

Hey all, Just got back myself, man I am beat. We were able to aquire 72 rolls, and I have 50 stamped and cancelled.
Geez the lines were insane, Some people actually went thru 5 times, but we kept it at 3.... It was a beautiful day and it couldn't have been better to stand in lines for 8+ hrs.
BTW I already have sold 1 roll for $33.50 shipped on the Bay... Woot!!!! |

FYI: Stamped and date-canceled LP3 Rolls at a small silent auction- To raise money for some kids to attend a Space Camp in Alabama, I have put two (2) LP3 rolls up for a silent auction. I got these at the Cent Event on 8/13 in Springfield. I stamped them with Lincoln 42¢ stamps & they are canceled by the Springfield PO with the 8/13 date. The double-headed roll started @ $5.00 & the winning bid was $21.00. The other roll has one tail showing & started bids at $10 & the winning bid was $17.00. About 4 people bid on each one, so there is still some interest out there. Hope this is useful info for some folks. Thanks! |
