Poll Question:
Each week most of us look through many coins in bags, boxes, CWRs, and teller trays to find silver coins. How many dollars worth of coins do you look through each week to find those silver coins?

This is ONLY your silver searching: nickels, dimes, quarters, and halves.

Choices:

Less than $50
$50.00 to $199.99
$200 to $500
$500.01 to $1000
$1000.01 to $2000
$2000.01 to $5000
$5000.01 to $10000
More than $10000

I'm pretty much maxed out too. You only have so many dump bank locations. Overloading the dump bank puts you at risk for them to say, "We Don't Want Your Coins Anymore!"

Yep dump banks will always be the problem. I'd go thru 20k a week if it was easy to dump. :)

3 RealCenters search more than $10000 of coins each week. I wonder how they manage their dumps?

I have 1 banks that will accept halves as long as they are in multiples of 1k, another bank that seems to accept carte blanche, and another that is annoyed but will accept a box or two weekly.

If i were to push these banks i could get up to 5k maybe, but i don't have the capital and that's a lot of heavy bike rides / gas expenses...

Energy costs would be the silent killer here. Impressive still!

Direct dumps with the Fed, or own/operate a coin handeling business. Easily done this way.

Deal

Live free or die.
Plain and simple.

"If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your council or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen."

I just placed my first $1000 halves order with the biggest bank in town, but I have three dump banks. I'm not sure if my supply bank at this point will want to order more than one bag per month, but we'll see. I've noticed that banks are getting stingy about ordering coins.

When the source bank gets familiar with you, and realizes that you are not going to bring the coins back to them, I don't think you will have any problem working up to $1000/week if you want. Work with the head teller so that your order is part of their weekly order for currency and coins. Possibly give the source bank some other business. Perhaps buy a CD or add some money from time to time in a savings account. Rotate the dump banks. Do the dump banks have coin counters?

Best of luck Nickelless.

The dump banks I have in mind don't. I'm probably going to re-roll the halves to start with. I'll let you guys know how things develop with this supply bank. I just switched my direct deposit for my job to this supply bank, so maybe the fact they get to play with more of my money will work to my advantage.

I have one bank I can get a box from each week. I do not have an account there, yet. I just line up with all the other business owners and take a box. They keep stacks of boxes on the counter at this branch.

My credit union is good to take them, but again one small bucket a week, and I am not noticed.

Silver Monometalism is the most permanent and stable form of money the world has seen. Natural law and history prove silver value is best multiplied by gold and best divided by copper. It is only in this counterfeit currency time when the natural law appears suspended.

Just don't have the time to look through as much as I would like. That and I don't have a dump bank set up yet.

I think I just found the perfect supply bank for halves. I just found out that my associate pastor's wife works at the branch of my bank that's just a few blocks from my new apartment, and having known her for most of my life and having good rapport with her (plus the fact that she's about my age and doesn't think I'm a nutjob), I think she'll be more than happy to help persuade the right people to order bags of halves for me. At least I won't feel as weird asking her to help pull some strings and twist some arms if this branch doesn't want to order a bag every other week.

Just curious, for those of you fishing for wild silver, do you typically say just that you're a coin collector and looking for old coins? This is what I did with pennies, but the largest single order I ever placed at any one branch was $400 in pennies. Have you guys encountered much opposition from branches in trying to order halves?

I play the coin collector angle. I say I'm looking for certain dates. Sometimes tellers ask me if I am looking for the silver coins. I tell the truth and say YES. Then, I follow up saying I will NEVER bring the coins back to them. Usually they are relieved, knowing once gone, they won't have to deal with those odd looking half dollars.

Mr. Nickelless, ask the parson's wife if she can sell you full bags from the counting machine, if that bank has one. I think you may find that an even richer source than the boxes.
