While searching FeeBay I came across a seller getting rid of several lots of War Nickels with the bidding considerably less than melt value. I bid on all ten lots and ended up winning 8.
Final total:
891 War Nickels worth $734.92 (as of this mornings spot price) for $598.53 with shipping!
Needless to say, I'm quite happy!

That's a good price; 67c each. It's very close to APMEX's buy price at 65c each. You got a good deal.
I've always shied away from buying the War Nicks. The dealer buy at APMEX is $13/$1 face, and they sell for $15.75/$1 face (for $100 worth); nearly an 18% discount. Smelters don't want them because of they are 9% manganese. |

Pardon me for typing an answer to a question directed at you, Country.
It makes the recovery of the other metals more difficult, i.e. it costs more to refine the desired element from the alloy. |
There's profit if you melt things!! 8{> |

I can't get a job (besides mowing lawns tpe stuff) for another few months so I have been concentrating money on pennies but, I would like to hold a small hoard of these(a few hundred dollars) even though I prefer 90% and 40%.
Apmex's deal on FV $1 as low as $1.25 below melt is a steal. Unfortunatley you have to buy 200+ lots, currrently a minimum of $3058 ! |
