I am running an ad on Craigslist and got an email for 9 lbs of wheat pennies.

Now he said that his sister claimed it was 9 lbs luggage weight. Guess she had them at her house back east and brought them to his house here in my state.

I assume luggage weight would include the container they used to transport them?

How much would you offer for 9 lbs luggage weight?

Thanks

No way to know unless you know the weight of the luggage (and therefore the net weight of the wheat cents)...

My hobby: collecting real money 1 copper cent or nickel at a time.

Guess he counted them and there was $13.60 face value. I offered him $41 and he accepted that. I'll let you know what I find.

Sounds pretty fair. You offered just over 3 cents each for them so I would have been all over that too.

You got an awesome deal at that rate of 3 cents each even if they are commons. Let us know what you find.

3 cents is really that good a buy? I believe i have a coin dealer in town that still sells common wheats at 3 cents.

I would buy up everything he has! The local coin dealers here buy at 2 to 3 cents each, and sell common wheats at 5 cents each to the public. I was lucky enough to do a bulk dealer with one dealer for 3.5 cents each but that was a one time deal.

Nothing to write home to mom about with my finds.

However, I did get a

1917, 1917d, 1918s, 1919, several 1920, 1920d, 1925s

several more different date 1920's
a lot of 1930s (weird it seems I was getting more 1930s than 1940s)
some 1940s
tons of 1950s

an almost BU 1955 S

I guess not bad at 3 cents a piece right?
