I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but here it goes:
Someone asked whether I would like to buy an engagement ring from them. It doesn't fit in with my business, so I declined. The ring is platinum with a natural 1 carat diamond and some other diamonds on it. Below is a picture. I told the guy that I'd help him with his own sale of it, but I'm a bit unfamiliar with how to do it. I don't know whether he should take the diamonds out and sell everything separately, or whether it should be left in its finished form and sold as a ring. The main diamond is a princess cut and has small inclusions
Any suggestions are appreciated.
I'm sure you're curious... my estimated valuation of it is $2.5 to $3K in materials

| How would it break down costwise if you took out the diamonds and melted the ring for the metal? I don't think he could make much on the stones if he sold them, but he could keep them and have them put in another setting. It won't help if he needs the money now, but at least he wouldn't be practically giving the stones away. |

I know of a local jeweler who is on a serious buying binge at the moment. He just had one of those huge gold & silver buying shows last weekend. He's been in business for over 20 years and has a decent reputation here. You may want to consider sending him an email and picture of the ring.
