Lot#: 27 Description: Coin 1939-D Jefferson Nickel Gem BU Key date in the Jefferson Nickel Series. Graded as Gem Brilliant Uncirculated condition by the consignor. A sharp coin! #27-88 Group - Category: Coins &Paper Money - Other
Do many of you find old BU nickels in the wild?

The oldest BU nickels I've found are '41 and '47. A BU 39D is probably rarer than a poor 50D. |

Do they typically sell for that much? |

I have found a 50-d I have NOT found a 39D or a 38D. Prices lists show them from $12-$1250 because of several errors and die varieties.

I have found both a 38D and 38D, but not the 50D. I have found a few 40's that were BU, at least in my mind. |

Roadrunner: how many thousands of dollars did you have to search through to find all those? |

I have been through....... $30,000 at least to find my one 1950D.
edit: Along the way, I have found several 39P&S and 38 P&S and 40 PDS that I call AU - I refuse to say unc, but they could pass for it.
Probably about a whole roll al together.
Nice hairlines, no steps of course... |

After searching several hundred $$'s in pennies(which was rewarding) for a couple of months, I went and got $20 in nickels and I was pleased to get a 40S,41,46(2)53,58. They are all in good shape,I'm not a grader and I don't know what they are worth. And since I'm green to nickles, what should I be on the lookout for?
Can someone give me some feedback on these? I also found at least 15 1964's. Does anyone else find this many on average?
Also,I'm interested to know how many of you guys find buffalo nickles or how many rolls did you go through to find any, because I really want some of these guys.
I'm sure this will be just as addictive as cents..... |

A LOT! Probably in the 4-5K range. I believe I have the whole collection of Jeffs from roll searching. |

That's actually a lot less than I was expecting. I have read estimates of tens of thousands up to $75,000 to find them all. Maybe you hit a couple different peoples' collections. |
