That sounds about right for their value. It depends if you can find someone who wants them for their collection. Excluding the SILVERs, I don't think dealers would be interested in the circulated NIFCs and proofs we find. [/quote]
In the past I've found a few lightly circulated clad proofs that my dealer would give me $1-$5 a piece for depending on the year, but again they have to be almost uncirculated. On other NIFCs he has no interest. |

I see we walk some common ground.
Not exactly dream boxes but if we keep plugging away, it adds up.
Happy hunting.

Just enough to keep in the game. I'm still waiting for that Ag Monster, though. Best box I had this year was 28 40% and 4 90%.
I also noticed we are running about the same volume with the same results. |

I have a theory about the proofs being found in large amounts.
What does not seem possible is that they all come from proof sets.
I am thinking these are mint rejects thrown into circulation?
Five or so of each year? Hmmm...doesn't fit the hypothesis. Maybe that was a desperate move from a child. Maybe stolen then used for change.
Anyone have insights?
Love these finds with all the odd stuff.
Also I note that the rare boxes are mixed with a lot of skunk boxes.
Give searchers like me hope.
I get a lot of skunks and if it wasn't for brute force, I would have not much to show.
I also know that big volume means work hauling them around and lots of containers and waste.
I have been crushing coin wrappers into the coin boxes and starting my fires (fireplace) with them lately.
My garbage service must be perplexed with all the cans full of coin debris.

Be careful. You don't want your home to be visited at night or when your not home by the perplexed...
Better to burn...

Burn all your refuge wrappers and boxes. That's the way to go to maintain your privacy. I stuff all of mine into my woodstove. If you get plastic $1000 bags, you may have to be creative when you dispose them. Burn the paper at home.
My guess about the proofs is that they are collection remainders that could not be sold - dealer disposed coins at face for cash. Or, just a dealer disposal of inventory, bought at or near face, that would not sell. It's sort of like when a stamp dealer buys a collection and disposes of the common commemorative stamps at a discount to face value.
60% of boxes and bags have been SKUNKS this month. I guess that's just the way it is for a half searcher - many SKUNKS, with a few good boxes every now and then.

I'm all for securing your privacy. But after burning my rolls and boxes in our woodstove in the house once, I was asked politely not to do it again. The wax from the paper made a really aweful smell. I use the boxes to ship pennies so, for me the problem is just the rolls, which i bag up and send to the recycling pick up each week. They just take the bag and toss it in the compacter so i'm not too concerned. For a while i did have 2 recycling bins filled with broken down half and penny boxes. Since we're not struggling with the heating just yet, i'll continue to recycle first.
Country i think i'm leading the way with skunks this month, the stats don't lie. 6/10 searchers are finding zilch and the other 4/10 are doing incredibly well. Let's hope these law of averages kicks in soon |
Selling Copper cents. $0 FV available at 1.4xFV. Also interested in trading for wheat pennies and other coins Please pm me for requests or inquiries.

Privacy Concerns:
For those that don't have a way to burn the boxes and/or wrappers or if burning does create a noxious smell that could possibly be dangerous try hiding the wrappers inside of other clean trash that is then going into a trash bag before going out to the curb for garbage pick-up.
Example: Stuff plastic or paper wrappers inside of cracker boxes, cereal boxes, anything clean like this and then maybe secure the top with a bit of tape so it doesn't come open so that what you are doing is on display to anyone that may go through your trash prior to trash pick-up. If these were just lose in a bag and the bag were to break open at the time of them throwing it into the truck, it would leave tell-tale evidence of your hobby.
Save advice goes for when purchasing new expensive electronics. They advise that you don't advertise your recent purchase by having the empty boxes out at the curb awaiting trash pick-up. The bag guys drive around neighborhoods looking for anything and everything that might clue them in to the valuables awaiting them inside a home.
Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. |

NICE!!!
Was it two solid rolls of '66s and a solid roll of '67s? Must have been someone dumping part of a collector accumulation. |

I visited 6 different banks/cu's late last week (in IA) and the half dollar puchases went as follows:
Bank #1: $400 in CWR - 1 Franklin
Bank #2: $130 in MWR / $30 in CWR - Skunk
Bank #3: $120 in MWR - Skunk
Bank #4: $80 in MWR - Skunk
Bank #5 (C.U.): $271.50 in Partial Bag - 3 40%
Bank #6: $100 in MWR / $100 in CWR - 8 40% (all from CWR)
I ran out of cash on my person or I would have hit more locations last Friday. All in all, not a bad outing. (There were also several locations that didn't have any on hand.)
It's worth noting that in order to purchase the $271.50 from a machine, I had to add $228.50 to the machine in order to make an even $500. The teller was super helpful, and she got the last '09 quarter she needed for her son's book in return. :-)
TOTALS for $1231.50 searched: - 1 90% - 11 40% - 1 NIFC ('03)
I also found 1 war nickel in 20 rolls of Nickels searched. I rarely search nickels, but I do hoard them...lol. |
