That's my small collection. I just have them because they look nice. What do people think? Neat? Bad "investment"? Good "investment"? Fun? Boring?

Is anyone serious into gems?

A TON?!?!? Wow Nickelmeister, that is a serious mother lode.

But seriously, that picture rocks! (Sorry, couldn't resist)

I have a small rock collection: polished rocks, some crystals, some geodes, some plant/animal fossils, some random cool-looking things, etc.

I have a some clear sapphires. The biggest one is .99 carats. A place in MT was like $7 for a bucket of gravel and you could sort through it. I found a bunch of small ones all of which are clear or pale blue.

Bad investment, these days Russian and Chinese labs create all sorts of very realistic artificial gems, and good luck unloading a bunch of semiprecious stones and getting good money for them.

Good investment if you don't have much money tied up in them.

They sure are purdy.

Cool man!

It's obvious that you have some real stones for posting a picture like this.

My favorite is that hunk of torquios..mid upper left.

You can find some cool stones along the shore of Lake Erie. But most people are looking for colored Beach glass to make jewlery out of.
