So lately I have been considering how to display or have easy access to different coin collections. I know that many denominations have whitmans folders or books, but what about those odd coins that dont have a book for them?
Anyone handy in here ever built some sort of display thingy?
Or are there affordable display type cases out there that dont suck? I have seen the expensive dealer style ones or the uber cheap crap ones, but nothing solid that is in my price range.

My friend had a table top that was a collage of different beer tops.
So no other ideas? I just am not creative or handy enough to get my own ideas lol. |

Well, I attempted to make a cheap coin display. Bought a sheet of foamboard stuff, basically a springy foam covered in thin cardboard. I also got some thin but nice looking fabric. Using an exacto knife I cut out coin holes, laid fabric over, and pushed the coins in. It works I guess, though I cannot get the fabric flat in any way. Works well enough without the fabric to hold the coins, though doesnt look very nice.
Oh well, maybe I can come up with a better idea. |

I think you came up with a very creative and good idea.
Sounds like you made a thing like in the fancy foam toolbox drawers.
The fabric wrinkles right? Maybe try to paint the foam. |

| JWRAY- I do the same exact setup on things I've dug with metal detectors. Cut a small X in the fabric and push the coin back in. This will keep the fabric straight. |

just be careful of the glues and chemicals in the materials.
If you have coins that are collectable/rare, they could become tarnished/damaged from improper display in 'volatile' holders. |
