Hi all,
I know the years in which there are precious copper and silver in coinage for the USA and Canada in my sleep, but are there any other currencies, ie, Britain, Australia, etc. that one can also roll hunt?
I'd love to do some roll hunting in Canada, any members here do it and if so, what's the take?

| I think the real question is which fiat coins offer the most metal value relative to their face value. Other than that, finding PM such as silver in coin rolls is pretty much a crapshoot, IMO. |

I read that a number of Austrialian coins were close to intrinsic value now. Also British coins have changed composition due to rising metal prices. |

I'd love to roll hunt in Switzerland, not for the metal, but for the numismatic consistency. Their designs haven't changed since the 1870s, and the compositions of their smaller coins haven't changed much either. Swiss coinage is the only other place on earth, beyond the US, where pre-1950 coins still circulate. You know how US nickels from 1938 look identical to 1988 nickels are circulated as "just another nickel"? Switzerland's coins are like that, too. The odds are good of finding neat stuff every time.
Bronze still circulates in Scandinavia, in the Ore coins of Norway, Sweden, and Denmark. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think bronze is still used in Samoan 1 and 2 sene coins, Taiwanese half dollars, Pakistani 1 rupees, and Bulgarian 5 stotinki coins.
The Swedish 5 kroner coin is solid nickel, albeit plated with copper-nickel.
Hey Brits... are you blokes still able to find copper (pre-1992) 1p and 2p coins in circulation? |

I would think that Panama would be equally as good to roll hunt in as the US since thier coins are pretty much exactly like US coins in size, composition, value and denomination. Also anywhere that is dollarized should be ok.
While traveling in Egypt, my father was offered US coins, Euros, and Canadian coins at a discount. Locals get them from tourists, but they can't bank or spend the coins, so they try to trade the coins for US dollars or now preferably Euro bills. Something to keep in mind while vacationing. Trade your extra FRNs for discounted coins and use the profit to help fund dinner. Just dump the coins back home. |

I stick with things people know. Then again my plan is to hold coppers until I need to use them to trade with. I think there will be a day when the gas station I use is willing to sell me gas for a box of copper cents.
Even if they were copper I don't think they would be as happy with Soviet Rubbels. |

Agreed. That's one reason why I sold what little foreign silver I had, because most people wouldn't have a clue about pre-1967 Canadian dimes. |

Hi there,
Well, I usually stick with US silver, but anytime I can get world silver at a discount or for face, I jump on it.
I like having at least couple hundred dollars worth of all the "big" countries' silver coins- USA, Canada, Europe, etc- just in case I need to "bug out" anywhere, I have a couple hundo in locally recognized silver/gold. |
