I bought the vacuum sealer for my Brinx boxes (long-term storage). It's great, they look so good (like perfect monetary bricks), and I know they won't turn green, etc. No big deal, right? Well, I started doing my silver, which is already double sealed in PVC-free plastic. Those doubly protected coins are then put in MicroBan Vacuum storage containers, and then I seal those in vacuum sealed bags. I would hope that after all of this my silver remains tarnish-free!

| Can you give me a little more information about what machine or vacuum sealer you are using and do you think you could vacuum seal a brinks nickel box in one? I'm not worried about tarnish but moisture could really make a mess of things for me. Anyone use shrink wrap on a box? |

Ardent, I use a mid-level (V2040) unit from FoodSaver. The bags are fairly heavy-duty (even offering a textured side that allows for more stable stacking). I buy an 11" x 18' roll. I cut the bags into six unit lengths (units are pre-measured on plastic rolls). After carefully sealing one end, I place the Brinx boxes in vertically and start the machine (centering the box as the bag shrinks). Just as the box shows signs of imploding, I switch the heat seal on. Presto! Wait a day or two afterwards to check for proper sealing (box should still look ever-so-slightly stressed - the box will feel tight and secure in your hand), then secure excess material with clear tape if desired. As for your original question, a box of nickels would fit even better, as I leave a little extra material around the edges!

| Thanks for the additional information. I'll look into it. |
