I find it amusing that there's such an uproar that the Mint is paying 1.7 cents on the penny, and that Congress is willing to change to steel just to save $500 Million over the next ten years. Now don't get me wrong, $500 Million is a lot. But considering they just passed a $290 Billion farm bill, with little notice, what's the point?

The farm bill bought votes. The pennies don't. We're the biggest suckers going. They raise our taxes and spend our money to buy our votes with our money. That is, after their cronies have gotten a cut. Amazingly, no matter where or how much they spit into the toilet, anytime anyone talks about cutting taxes or spending it seems they're always crying the'll have to cut education. BULLFEATHERS!

They can always get support for education. And they know this well. The uninformed citizens think that the children wont get as good of an education if the schools dont have as much money as possible flowing through it. But, none of it translates into smarter students.

I have a hard time resisting the temptation to take a wheat penny out of the take a penny cup when I see one!

on the topic of the recent farm bill.....as I watched debate on the floors of both houses, my blood boiled. And the subsidies?!?!? You all are right the penny thing is smoke in mirrors, in that they could save so much more through the strokes of pens to repeal previous actions, rather than changing something as large as coins. On the matter of education.."but the children" will always be a plea that "only a heartless scrooge" would turn down.
