I have a bunch of old farm equipment in my backyard, way back in the woods. It was there when my family moved in, 19 years ago. Now, my question is, what kind of metal is this? It's non-magnetic and doesn't seem to have worn down at all even through all the years it was outside. I'm kind of thinking it may be platinum because the piece looks like a filter. If you need a better picture just leave me a reply, it would be awesome to find out what it was.

Stay Solid.

I don't know how to edit posts, but I'm at the top anyway. I figured I'd add in that my hope of platinum is merely a pipe dream. If anyone has any knowledge about what the metal could be I'm willing to accept it.

Stay Solid.

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Hit the exposed strands with a torch. Platinum melts at 3214.9#8201;°F. Aluminum melts at 1220.58 °F. So if its aluminum a good propane torch would tell.

You say it's a filter. My guess is somebody stuffed stainless in there to strain large particles.
