Some Sheriff's deputy filmed a chupacabra down in south Texas a few weeks ago. Belief in the chupy is not an impediment to Rational Thinking membership. We recently lost Nickelless who went off the deep end in claiming to find not only a wild Indian but also a 1909 VBD. I am wondering how many of us Rational Thinkers are left?
Chime in here if you still wash your hands after sorting, use an inside toilet, and don't believe in Santa (or wild Indians).
Deal, Mistero, are you still with me? |

| I'm still with you Tenbears! I double sort through my Ryedale and handsort through all of the copper, but still no Injuns. Trust me, I wash my hands after sorting and still use the indoor toilet! I have a 5 year old boy who helps me open rolls and loves to see wheat pennies fall in the bucket after the zinc re-sort. Rest assured that I won't ever have to explain what a wild indian is to him unless I buy one from the coin dealer down the street. I'm raising him to be a rational thinker and not cloud his head with thoughts of Santa Claus, Tooth fairy, Easter Bunny or Wild Indians now. I'm backing Tenbears 100%. |
When my wife got after me it sounded like "Blah,Blah,Blah", but now it sounds like "Clink,Clink,Clink". Its amazing what that Ryedale can do for a hounded husband. |

| Stop looking in your coppers for IH's. BOTH of the ones I found were about to be returned in my zinc pile. Pure luck I looked down and saw them. |

| I use a 1979 in my Ryedale to sort all of my pennies that I get from the bank. When that sort has been completed I change the 1979 to a 2001 penny and re-sort all of the zinc to make sure that all of the really old wheats have been plucked. Will any wild indians still be with the zinc even after the re-sort? I'm confused now |

I'm with you TenBears. Nice avatar by the way. M83striker, I do a zinc sort first with the sensitivity tweaked just right. Then I do a copper resort. I find all kinds of goodies in the reject bin. All kinds except Injins....

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks. |

Well, at least there are three of us left with Striker, Deal and me. Three of us who practice good hygiene so that we don't become infected by the wild Indian pathogen.
Thanks on the avatar change. I wanted something unique that no one else had. Understandably at this forum, the IHP is a popular avatar.
I sort like you two do, a zinc sort followed by a copper sort. I have a tame Indian which falls with the copper in the first sort. That is when I know I have "Indian Hunter" (the name for my Ryedale) set right. I have it set so that Indians fall with the copper rather than the zinc. Then in the next sort of everything that fell with the copper, I set Indian Hunter again so that the tame Indian falls in with the rejects along with older wheats. I have found a bunch of old wheats this way, but never one of these fantasy wild Indians. |

I don't believe in Wild Indians either, and definately not in Canada. No Canadian pennies equivilants predating the Maple Twig either - they don't exist in the wild either so no need to look for them either. I don't do the indian dance in either direction!
I do believe in the Easter bunny since he was stamped on 1967 Canadian Nickels and chooses to make an appearance in my accept bin occasionally. But I have yet to see Santa Claus.
Definately wondering how many penny fingers were licked by NDFarmer before he claimed to find 4 in one bag! |

| I presort all my bags before they go through the Ryedale. That way I get most of the wheats out, and I don't miss any Indians because they can't hide in amongst those Memorials when you have them under a magnifying glass. And that way I can pull out all the bent coins and the ones that are stuck together and this makes the old Ryedale run smooth. I have run 50,000 coins through several times and not had one jam. |

| I'm with you! The wild indian cult tries to suck us in with their promises of "Oh, of course you can find wild indians!". And then... when you least expect it... they....STRIKE! Well maybe not, but they like to plant indians in certain peoples boxes to try to persuade them. Sometimes, the one that I found whispers to me... come with usssss...... You know you waaaanntt tooooo.. in a creepy eerie tone. |

Ah.. Now I understand why you guys are missing them. Methinks it is intentional because you want to remain Rational Thinkers. The problem is in the sorting method. I used to sort both ways like you guys do in the hopes of having a wild Indian drop into my lap. Then one day last year I found 6 Indians in one day.. all in my zinc box.. all after it had been sorted for copper and then gone through the zinc resort. Seems those crafty wild indians were clinging to the zinc for cover no matter how you tried to sort for them. So in an effort to capture more wild Indians I changed my sorting method. I will admit that I love machines.. and I get great use out of them.. but no machine can do everything.. no matter how good the machine. Sometimes you have to trust your eyes.. even when clouded by the wild Indian pathegon.
The way I sort now is to do a copper sort first. Then I hand sift through the zinc rejects to pluck out wild Indians and older wheats before dumping the chaff into a counter or rolling machine to be processed for return to the bank. This method has yielded 12 wild Indians so far this year.
I don't believe in the chupacabra. |

I got a chuckle out of that. There is yet hope for a cure for the wild Indian pathogen. |

| It's a numbers game 0.000006 of all pennies in circulation are wild indians.... according to my percentages. How's that for rational thinking? |

Nah, the percentage is much lower than that. Most wild Indians are no longer in circulation.. they have been domesticated. They are even scarcer than your calculations would suggest.. especially in Texas. |
