I bought 2 boxes ($1,000) last week and got nothing.
I tried another box today and got nothing.
I think I'll stick with pennies. |

Yeah.. those dud boxes can be discouraging. But every now and then you get a good hit. A buddy of mine got 2 solid rolls of 90% in his box last week! |
If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

| Norcal, skunkings happen all the time with halves. But, then you get a good box. You might try ordering from a different bank and see if that changes your luck. |

cashed my check today and got it in halves $450 was all they had left and out of that came 8 40% kennedy and ANOTHER! 90%franklin from 1962. Back to back franklins has me all in a tizzy!
EDIT: About skinkings,,,,,SKUNK happens. I agree- try ordering from another bank. Not all batches are winners but that is the nature of the silver coin roll hunting. |

I stopped at a small bank yesterday. They had 3 CRW. I found 5-64's and 7-40% In the next town, I got $100 in FWR and $70 in CRW. CRW's had 7-40% FED rolls had 2 40%.
It looked like the fed rolls had been there a while, so I am going to go back and buy the rest in a couple of weeks when I am back out that way. I feel that 2 per $100 wasn't bad. |

| Picked up 15 rolls of halves and got 3 40% silvers. Two of them were 1967's colored over in red marker. |

picked up my first $500 box of halves today. Brought a few rolls back in to the office with me to check while I stayed late, and nothing. Not the best start, but there's plenty of rolls left.
Wish me luck. |

My dump bank has coin sorting machines out in the lobby as a free service for members and nonmembers. Also, I can't really say I like fast food. Still, I have been thinking about releasing these into circulation rather than just dropping them off at another bank. May help constrain the amount of non-silver halves available to the local banking system (though I could also be drastically overestimating my personal impact on the coin market, even locally).
As far as the status of my inaugural box? A whopping TWO 40% 67s. I've had much better luck asking for hand rolled halves deposited by customers. To make matters worse, both of the 40%s I found were tarnished enough to make the bands around the sides look almost like their cupronickel peers. I'm inclined to believe the box I got had already been sorted the lazy way, with those 2 coins missed prior to delivery.
Does anyone know anything about whether or not these companies hand sort halves before sending them out the door? It looks like the coins are coming from NF String & Son, though the Internet makes it seem like they just make the packaging. Their offices are right near where I live (which initially led me to assume they handle processing and delivery), so I think an investigation may be in order.
If it turns out they have some massive Willy Wonka style sorting factory, an angry letter packed full of unsavory language could very well be heading their way. |

They only make the paper. It is the paper of choice for most east coast coin services. Some of the coin services pull out the silver if they notice it. Also, half dollars get sorted over and over and over again by guys like us. But don't give up hope. A good buddy of mine found a really nice XF/AU Seated Liberty half in one of those N.F. String & Son rolls from a bank box. |

summer job has brought me to Cherokee Nc for the next week. There is a harras casino, thinking about seeing if they deal with large dollars. (doubt it) Stopped by a bank here on the reservation and got $100 worth of halves. They were all handwrapped some plain and others varied, one wrapper marked New Jersey. I was excited. Long story short.......SKUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was angry but not deturred(sp). I will be in the state the rest of the summer and look foward to more sorting. P.S. anyone here sorting halves in North Carolina??????? |

I would take that return on silver prospecting any day. |

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

I am happy with this sort, but it has been my worst in several months. I like to find at least 10 keepers per 1000. |

Great percentages. I would be buying as many halves as I could find/afford. Hope you continue to have those great results.

Alas, it is not the finding nor affording that hinders me. It is the rewrapping and dumping. |

Yesterday I found a 1920 Walker while half hunting. The date is barely visible, but it's the oldest half I've found so far. |

I bought a total of $65.50 in halves from several banks.
I found 7 40%. Found a '69 that looks like brand new.

And everybody wants to gain some edge...some little favor or advantage – a monopoly, a subsidy, a fat contract with the government, a handout, free food, free medicine, crop supports, student loans, a guaranteed pension, a bailout, a tax credit...some kind of greasy giveaway; the last thing they want is a free market, where the chips fall where they may." - Bill Bonner |

Lately, I have been going to a locak bank and getting crw's of halves. Most have an "X" on then, so I assume they are from another sorter. That said many have had 40% silver in them so I have kept getting them.
Well, my lock ran out yesterday. 14 rolls no silver. Do I try it again or start using the bank as a dump? |

| in the latest issue of numismatic news there was an article saying that somebody found a 1980 half that was extrordinarily thin and the letters on the edge were lacking. its highly likely that it was made mistakenly with a susan b anthony blank. early value estimates put it at $800 to $1000. just something else you may want to be on the lookout for, possibly in the 79 year too. |
