I am unfamiliar with the jet-boil system. Frankly the fact that part of it is being recalled bothers me. I'm looking into iodine as a method of purifying water to drink if you need more water than you can pack. I thought someone on here had a system where water is evaporated from a larger bowl and then condenses into a smaller bowl inside the bigger one; Polywrap covers the outside bowl. You would be distilling the water and not just boiling it. The downside here is that it would take quite awhile to get enough water to drink.
I guess that you could set one of these up (or buy a jet-boil system) inside your house and then test the water afterwards to see what is safe to drink. Of course the water you purified would be from the same area that you expect to bug-out-in.

I'll start a search on stills, solar and wood fire, and see what I come up with.

I am already in my "bug out" place but just in case.......I have two emergency bug out places at 1/2 and 1.5 miles with everything that I might need (winter or summer) to last me for three months.......I figured that that would be the most time that I need to get rid of who ever took over my home.

You bring up an interesting point about having multiple bug-out locations near each other, Ponce. I think that's something for the rest of us to consider, in case something happens to one of our locations.

Bug out bag is too small for me. I need my stuff. I have a dolly in my closet and know exactly what I'm taking. I'll just take my time, let the traffic die down.

What if you don't have the luxury of time? The purpose of the bug-out bag is to pack essentials, not stuff you want but stuff you NEED. Think small and compact, and pack only what you can carry if you have to get out very quickly.

I just saw this link for sleeping bags that go all the way to Antarctic-grade. Anyone familiar with this brand? Any other sleeping bag brands any of you would recommend, especially for extreme cold?
