I'm new to this eBay thing, so 'splain this to me, masters...

When I see an item, any item, for sale on eBay for $X.YZ with free shipping, would I really only pay the bid price and nothing further? Are there other fees I should expect to pay before determining whether an item is worth it?

(Also: I'm sure this item is a scam, but how? Item#260333016108)

Doesn't look like a scam to me - he's just wanting to start a bidding war...

Buyers don't pay the fees. The sellers do. So as a buyer, the price you see (or bid) is the price you pay. The seller is getting ~12% less than what you pay because of fees.

Item #260333016108

The guy selling it has 678 positive feedback as has been on E-Bay for 2+ years. It is not a scam.

Many things start out at a a penny, but now way will they end up there. The best way to find out how much it will sell for is to look at auctions that have already ended.

The last two similar auctions ended at $16.75 and $18.50 with free shipping. So, you will have to bid around that price (and I am guessing the higher one) to have a chance to win....

another reason to start out the item low is because the listing fee is a tad bit cheaper.

I do not know if you have ever been to an auction. When bidding is going on it is a scary adrenaline rushing time and sometimes you bid more than you want to pay. Be prepared to make your bid on eBay and know that you will probably start increasing your bids as the auction goes. Be careful no to be caught up in the moment because it will be binding and some dealers like payment immediately. Also, some bidders use sniper software which puts a bid in during the last 1/10 of a second, which is how all the real good stuff sells on eBay, so be prepared to NOT "think" you won until you refresh your screen.

I never bid until the last 10 seconds. All a person does it work the price up higher. Ebay powerseller since April of 99'. 1 cent starting auctions are great for seller fees and hopefully for the last minute of bidding.

As a buyer put things on your watch list and bid last 2 minutes. As for Buy it nows I always look under newest auctions and hit refresh. for buying silver bullion I've found some great deals. Also a few weeks ago live.com was giving users who used their site a disount on auctions of 30% off if it was buy it now. I see that went down to 8% and today didn't notice a thing.

Any help needed on bidding just PM me. I don't use any software...just quick on the trigger finger during last 10 seconds.
