OK, one last thing before I FINALLY get some sleep (I stayed up all night wondering where the sun went, then it dawned on me ): I just got an e-mail from my brother, and both of us will be in town this weekend so he suggested we hit the nearby antique store to look for any sterling silver items they might have, but it got me to thinking, other than spoons or candleholders, I have no idea what type of items to look for that would be sterling or some other percentage of silver. Any suggestions on what to look for?

| ice tongs, sugar cube tongs, nut dishes, ashtrays, martini shakers, dinner plates, saucers, demitasse cups & saucers, Kiddish cups, serving spoons, meat forks, asparagus tongs, olive forks, pickle forks, cocktail forks, wine tasters, baby cups, baby spoons, marrow scrapers, compotes, bride's baskets, etc. Develop your senses for the look and feel of silver, you will find the most where people did not even realize they had it. Anything can be made of silver. I have found small sculptures, such as ships, and animals, & I even have a pirate jumping rope .800 silver statue. |

Hi there-
Look for the magic number ".925." Avoid anything that says silverplate, nickel silver, or silver plated copper (if you're looking for silver).
I go antiquing as well, but chances are, if it's an antique STORE, the proprietor prolly knows what they've got. Go to auctions, garage sales, and thrift stores, preferably in lower-income areas. The trick to going in lower income areas is that most of the stuff will be baby clothes and crapola, but when you DO find good stuff, the seller is usually ignorant of it's value. Ok, that's my mercenary secret for the day. : P
