When I first started sorting coins, I was paranoid that people would only put 48 or 49 coins in a roll and I would be losing money by sorting. Once I found some dimes I quit worrying about it.

Last week however I got a roll that had 55 pennies in it! On the down a side I have had rolls that have been a few short as well. One roll of nickels only had 34 nickels in it. I should have been able to spot that one when I picked them up, but i did not look over them closely.

I figure it all evens out. I'm sure I've deposited the odd short or long roll too. Once a teller noticed I was missing 5 nickels in one roll, not sure how that happened but must have been distracted while rolling it. I've often gotten long rolls, find a dime or so per $25 in pennies, a dime or two in every box of nickels, and would you believe a QUARTER stuck in the middle of a nickel roll (how they forced that in there, I will never know).

I had one batch of CWR pennies where the average was 47. Several rolls with 44. I was shorted $17 in total CWR from the $300 in coins, that was turned in for a charity drive for United Way. The donation check from the person handling the charity drive had already gone to United Way so I just counted the the shortage as a donation to United Way.

Somehow that sort of thing doesn't surprise me coming from United Way.

i don't count rolls that closely as a rule... I do remember getting one that they were just barely able to fold the ends over on because it had 58 cents in it, which was impressive. i don't think i've ever been shorted more than 4 or 5 cents on a CWR, or 2 cents on a Brinks roll.

Nothing of value is an investment unless you possess it. If all you've got are paper, pixels, or promises, you're gambling.

Many of the CWR's I find are overfilled rather than underfilled. I once had 59 pennies packed into one penny roll.

I had one batch one time where it seemed like every other roll was one short--but then every other roll was one over--I also pretty much stopped obsessing over it once I found a couple of dimes...

I agree with all...I see over filled and under filled rolls when I open a box and flip it, standing the rolls on the end. It becomes obvious looking at the height of the rolls if you have one too full or empty roll!

Also, before I flip the box over, I scan the ends for wheat pennies. It is surprising how often you see a wheat cent doing this.

Hm, I've never actually counted a roll.

Are you throwing that out?
