I found this in a box of Canadian nickels, but I have no idea on how to grade coins. Would anyone care to comment?

I would grade this as F to VF based on "Official A.N.A.Grading Standards for US Coins" 1996 edition ISBN 0-307-09097-3

I don't think it's as high as VF... It's kinda flat looking, but you can't tell based on a picture. Still a good find, especially in a box of canadian nickels |

I can't help you with the grading, but it sure is nice to see one with a readable date... Congrats.

| If you were to sell the coin I would list it as Fine. Mostly because some of the detail on the braids is gone, and the buffalos high spots are worn down. It's rare to find one in Fine circulating, They are a poor design for circulating. Most of the time if you find one in the wild the date is worn off and there is no detail on the braids and one worn buffalo. |

| Indian and Buffalo may be worn, but look at the date! The date is well defined and complete. You don't find those very often in box sorting with good readable dates. Usually, the date is the first thing to go on these. Exciting find. |
