Everything looked good on this service from Coinstar until I checked the fee schedule for the card itself via greendotonline.com. There is a $4.95 monthly maintenance fee on top of the $4.95 fee per each card reload at the Coinstar. Yikes! So, no chance of using the debit card feature from Coinstar. It is not cheap.
I used a Coinstar last night for the first time. I initially poured a jar of zincs that I knew the exact count on to see if Coinstar was accurate. It was. I ended up dumping about $26 and got an Amazon gift card code. The machine then cut me off as it was full. I might head back tonight to dump a few more dollars, as the Coinstar is across the street from my home. My only concern is that I might not find much on Amazon to buy. There are books and CDs, but many of the items are priced near retail anyway. Oh well, might just buy some silver coin(s) off Amazon if silver prices drop another few dollars per ounce. Probably be a cold day in hades before the sellers there sell at spot though. LOL.

Yeah, not so lucky in my region. A zinc dump is not really a problem per se right now anyway. A smooth operation of a consistent copper penny source and time to hand sort are the bottleneck anyway. I wrap pennies and nickels at my leisure as I listen to internet radio programs. The slight discomfort comes shlubbing into the bank lobby with a few bricks of hand-rolled zincs. I never know how the teller is going to accept some actual physical work of placing the rolls in the metal holders. I get a vibe sometimes that they work too hard just for my benefit....

A familiar vibe, especially when you're hauling $400 in half dollars!

I've been satisfied buying used merchandise on Amazon. Books, movies, and CDs rapidly depreciate the minute you bring it home. Why let that happen to you, when it can happen to someone else instead?
