I pulled this out of my zinc pile yesterday. It is too bad that is in such poor shape.

That's crazy man. Nice find regardless.

Deal

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like the additional stamping is raised. If it is, you've got a great error there.$$$
If it is impressed in, then it is no error.

The way it looks, it's most likely pressed in.

I was wondering if it is pressed. I have a pressed one. I hope it isn't.

Sorry I should have mentioned a few more details since it is hard to tell from the photos, but all images and lettering are raised not indented and none of the lettering is reversed. So if it is a fake, it is not your typical garage "vise" job fake.

Thanks for the comments.

Sounds like an error to me.

Thanks for your comments. From what I have read here and other places, I am more and more convinced that it is not a fake. If it is real, I can't image what it is worth as I have not found anything close to compare it to.

There is a similar but much cooler error on E-Bay on an older penny that is in better shape and it is selling for over $400. So it is definitely worth WAY less than that, but other than that I don't know.

Yes, and back in a Brinks box so close to me I could have eventually found it! :(

Seriously though, from my limited experience and knowledge, nothing in the coin looks to me to be fabricated. I'd say it is defenitely not a 'pressed' fake error.

A shame it isn't in better condition, but an excellent find!

For sure, it took a ton of luck to find this. I just happened to be sitting in a car, killing time, waiting for a kid's practice to end and pre-opening a few penny rolls to later run through the Ryedale when this one caught my eye. If it had not landed face up or I had been feeding pennies directly into the Ryedale like I usually do, chances are I never would have noticed it.

Anyhow I am waiting with fingers crossed for a coin error guy to take a look at the pictures. After that, the next question will be should I get it certified or will the low grade of the coin kill its value...

I'm not a fan of buying certified/slabbed coins. But finding a coin that is worthy of being certified/slabbed is a different story. I say send it off. No harm to be done.

Isn't there some way you could make that photo a little clearer and brighter. That photo is just not good enough to pass judgement.

I can increase the resolution if I zoom in and only capture part of the penny. Otherwise it just gets to be a huge picture. If there is a specific area that you want to see, let me know.

Zooming in is not the problem it's the brightness that is lacking. I would suggest you actually try to lower the size and increase the amount of lighting. The photo is actually to dark to ascetain details.
