Poll Question:
I'm sure some forum members find that they have fallen into a routine and have a standing order with their pick up bank as to the number of pennies they plan on getting each week.

I can't help but wonder what we collectively are weekly pulling out of the system as a whole as far as sorting pennies is concerned!

I know we have at least a few very serious players doing more of a commercial operation than casual sorting. However, I'm sure there are probably more of us represented that are just picking up a few rolls here and there. What say you?

Choices:

I sort less than $25.00 a week
I sort between $25.00 to $50.00 a week
I sort between $50.00 to $100.00 a week
I sort between $100.00 to $200.00 a week
I sort between $200.00 to $300,00 a week
I sort between $300.00 to $400.00 a week
I sort between $400.00 to $500.00 a week
I sort over $500+ a week

The problem is that I don't sort every week, but I almost always buy. No category for me. I think my last sort was around $500 or so. Plenty more to go.... My Ryedale gets used in spurts.

Deal

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

When I was up and running it was $100 per week. Got cut off of pennies recently and I need to find a new source. Right now it is zero per week. Good thing for nickels. Otherwise, I might have gone into some sort of sorting withdrawels.

Rich is a little whiskey to drink and some food to eat and a roof over your head and a fish pole and a boat and a gun and a dollar for a box of shells. Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

Sure.. I pick up a few rolls here and there.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

I'm trying to sort at least $600 a week, but I've had to work overtime shifts recently, so either way I'll have more pennies.

I think you need to put in more categories on the high side. You will miss alot of details in that $500+ category. IMHO....

$650-$875 a week here.

He said "sort" horgad.. not buy-n-stack. Weighing is only "pre-sorting."

Speaking of stacks, I had a stack fall on me once. I was on the floor rearranging stacks when I saw one starting to fall. I dove towards it trying to stop it, but was a bit on the heavy side and the boxes cascaded over me.

Luckily there was no damage done except to a nearby toilet brush which was demolished. My wife was like "What happened to my toilet brush?" and I'm like "I'm not sure maybe there was an elephant stampede?"

Anyhow, I now stack my pennies interlaced like bricks in one big square continuous stack and there is no way that they are going anywhere. The big downside is that I can no longer have as many weight categories as I like. Instead I just have two stacks: sort now and sort later.

Also in a couple more months I will be cutting off most of my bank orders and digging into that stack as I head down the home stretch towards my hoarding goal. I'll try and post a picture before the stack starts shrinking...

Glad you were't hurt. Would hate to read about a penny sorting injury. I had a stack topple once too.. but I did the quick calculations in my head as it was it start to go and decided to let gravity take it's course and pick them up afterwards rather than risk serious injury. Even interlaced they could go if you try to go too high, but it is a better stacking method.

Don't quit on us.. just set a bigger goal. Careful about canceling those standing bank orders. I know from personal experience that once you cut one off it is hard to get them to restart it.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.
