You mean kind of like having so much money you don't want anymore? uhhhh.... not me!

A materialistic society cannot afford credit, it will inevitably implode.

Not I....

Deal

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Since I sold all my hoard, I don't think I will reach mine this year. I'm too addicted to stop. Only thing stopping me will be time to do it, and too much money tied up in the hoard that I don't have enough for bills.

I recall Fiat boy saying he had reached his copper penny hoarding goal a while back. No shame in doing so in my opinion. Penny and nickel hoarding is a great opportunity, but not the only one.

Not even close...I set my goal for 2008 at 50-75K copper cents and I am just over 30K right now. I took a 6-week break so I will have to pick up the pace some over the remaining 4 months to make sure I obtain the goal I set. I may do 2 boxes a week instead of one for awhile to make up for the break I took (was doing 1 box per week for the most part before that).

Load up now while you can!

I don't know that "goal" is the right term for most of us. I personally am using my copper hoard as a means to ultimately building up my silver hoard. I don't think my copper hoard will ever rival Hoard's hoard at all, but I see copper as a means to an end, and for that matter see silver as a means to an end as well. I'm looking at this more as an equivalent to a 401(k), putting as much into it as possible, not setting a "goal" but just hoarding as much as possible while it's still possible.

if you look at things long term, 20 years or even 10 or 5, you will be well served. Its almost certain that copper pennies will no longer circulate and that copper pennies will be worth 5 or 10 cents or more. Now, if you understand demographics and deficits and mean reversion, getting such a guarantee performance out of your 401k will be challenging. I recommend John Mauldin's book Bulls Eye Investing for these topics.

My plan right now is to be "done" adding to the hoard in December. I might keep one bank order going to see if I can get some uncirculated 2009s, but that is it.

Also, I will still need to run a good chunk of my hoard through the Ryedale for a second sort and do a whole bunch of hand sorting. So even if I quit adding in December, I will still be working on purifying my copper pile for at least another 6 months after that.

Of course, plans can change...

No end in sight for me ... when we can't find anymore in circulation, then it'll be over.

I have passed my original goal for pennies, but that was set prior to finding this forum. My source bank recently cut me off, and I need to get that remedied (they want to charge me $8 for every box I pick up). Now, I find the process of sorting nickels and halves by hand enjoyable and don't plan to stop that any time soon. I like the treasure hunting aspect of it.

Rich is not owing any money to anybody, and not spending what you haven't got." Robert Ruark

I haven't even started sorting through my metric ton + hoard of U.S.nickels. When I do it will be done on cold winter evenings. Summers are too short around here and winters too long.

Perhaps just a little . A little over 100 boxes or $10,000 U.S. makes a metiric ton. I'm starting to think that I have enough dam nickels.

One metric ton sounds like a good goal. I can't believe you can keep yourself from sorting them. Think of all the war nickels and Buffalo that must be in that hoard, just waiting to be found. How do you sleep at night?

Forty bricks of nickels, about three 50 caliber ammo box full of pennies and 5 five gallons plastic bottles full of coins and dollar bills..........saving them for the past 31 years.

Oh yea, and stopped buying silver in 2002 when I had all that I wanted, and my "Get out of town Ponce" 20 Maples.

Greed is not my objective but security and preservation is.

Why Maples instead of American Eagles?
