Poll Question:
In the Hitch Hikers guide to the Galaxy one planet divided the population into three groups.

The A GROUP are those who think, plan and make things happen. They don’t do, but without them the world would stop.

The B GROUP are those who make life wonderful, accountants, hair stylists, lawyers, painters, artists, and all the other folks who work hard everyday, but don’t actually produce anything.

The C GROUP are those who actually do things, the builders, assembly line workers, fruit pickers, housekeepers, etc. These folks get things done the A GROUP finds needs to be done.

Which group are you in?

Choices:

A GROUP -- great planner/thinker
B GROUP --
C GROUP -- workers

Awake, O kings of the earth! Come ye, O, come ye, with your gold and your silver, to the help of my people, to the house of the daughters of Zion, to the help of the people of the God of this Land even Jesus Christ.

I think I am anyway! I was very nearly group D early this week, unemployed! Now I'm back to making plans for other people to carry out!

BTW, I LOVE that series!

Are you throwing that out?

You need to add D: All of the above. Some of us are SPECIAL

(Edit, hope that didn't sound conceited, I put myself down as a B, but I do a LITTLE A and C as well)

"Money is the barometer of a society's virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion...when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing...when you see your laws don't protect you against them, but protect them against you...when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice...you may know that your society is doomed."

Well let's see...

I own and operate an online model railroading store.

I own and operate an online copper bullion store.

I have worked on the design and construction of various machines.

I have done CAD and prototyping work.

I build and service computers in my local area.

I am a student leader for Tech Desk Advanced Support at my college (I diagnose, disassemble, replace, repair, and clean spills from laptops, etc)

I am currently working on an engineering project with some engineering friends that will hopefully evolve into another business over time.

Where does that put me? And more importantly, what the heck am I going to do once classes start again

The problem is that no one is willing to be a C anymore and very few folks qualify to be an A although everyone thinks they can.

I'm a top-heavy A (as a journalist by both occupation and mindset), but I'm trying to develop more C tendencies--hence my increasingly deep foray into preparedness activities. I've got the world's problems solved on paper, but without concrete steps that too many people around me aren't taking, nobody else will get them done, especially if they don't see the purpose behind my being an A.

Lawyers make the life wonderful? I guess, if you happen to be a lawyer....

Wait, scratch that...if it weren't for slumlords, I might've been homeless awhile back.

Okay, I'm a thinker and a planner, but I do my thinking and planning as an HVAC/R installer. (Usually very physical and technical). That would make me an "A-C". But I think most of you would agree, my job makes most people happy all year around. So in comes the "B". So what am I?

Deal

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Where exactly would a PE/Fire Protection Engineer fall into the catagories? I think and plan all day yet I also like to think that I make life wonderful and safe.

When my wife got after me it sounded like "Blah,Blah,Blah", but now it sounds like "Clink,Clink,Clink". Its amazing what that Ryedale can do for a hounded husband.

Real Estate Developer that plans, thinks, finds stuff for all our staff to do. So that would be A - but I make the world wonderful by creating communities and buildings for people to live and work. Oh, and I'm not a slumlord.

If you install HVAC, AC should work for you.

Funny you say that. A lot of people think my job is comfortable, it's not. If it's summer and I'm installing a new system it is hot. If it's winter it is cold. I have to leave just as the air/heat is ready. And working in the caves is a whole new story....

My real career, the one I am educated in and worked in for years: remote sensing analyst (Category A)

My last job: paralegal for a criminal defense attorney (Category C)

Now (and hopefully for a long while): housewife and mother (Category B). I like being at home. There's always something to do -- clean, organize, cook, iron, fix stuff . . . it's pretty neat. I never thought that just running a house would take up 7 or 8 hours a day, but it does. (Tiny brag: Our grocery bill is now $100/week for three people and a large dog, and that's with a hot meal every night cooked from scratch, no junk food! There's something to this staying at home. )

Definately a C, gotta make those pizzas until I get through college. Technially I guess I could be an A since I'm a manager but I don't just sit in the office like some of the others. I won't make anyone do any work that I wouldn't do and they work harder for me because of that.

I'm going to get my wife to call you Ant. That's wonderful.

I see an interesting list. From the votes most of us are in the B -- list. We work, sometimes really hard, but we don't produce anything. I see we do have some people some builders and thinkers as well. Sad part is I know my work is not needed, but I hope the job keeps up.

Awake, O kings of the earth! Come ye, O, come ye, with your gold and your silver, to the help of my people, to the house of the daughters of Zion, to the help of the people of the God of this Land even Jesus Christ.

I picked C since I am a govt employee and we all know how much we govt employees do lots of producing!

Truthfully, I imaginatively fall somewhere in between B and C, as I am a pilot for the Air Force and I move troops and cargo around the world, hence facilitating the movement of goods and people.

And I cant sleep.
