Back in the day. Mind you this was only a couple of years ago. A US dollar was worth $1.40 Canadian. If you made a trip to the states you would lose many %45 of the value of your money. Wanted $100 US it was going to cost you $145 Canadian with exchange rates.
Well I would always go through change just to find US coins, roll and hoard them. Then when I went to the states I just cashed them in for folding money.
I saved about 45% it was worth it! Any other Canadians ever do that?
You US guys may want to start thinking about that also as your dollar continues to devalue.

| I've been thinking about separating out the frequent foreign pieces I find, pounds, euros etc. just for that. Now I'm adding Canadians to the list. |
A materialistic society cannot afford credit, it will inevitably implode. Life and success are a "do it yourself" thing |

I did just the opposite. I used to go to the Canadian side of Niagara Falls to buy gas, cheaper plus the exchange rate brought the cost down to about $.50 per. gal. in the late 70's. (back in the day)
Your right,it may be time to start thinking about exchanging Dollars for Loonies.
Heck, the way it's going, Pesos might better.
But in the end it won't matter because it'll be the Amero.
You will be assimilated.

| When I was younger, I did the opposite also. When I went to Niagara Falls, I would cash out my remaining Canadian dollars for quarters. Then I would mix them into my purchases back here in NY. I made 35% because that was the exchange in the late 80's |

Have you noticed how similar the little US dollars look like Loonies. I can't decied if one governement is trying to get something over on the other or if they really are just getting ready for the Amero. They both look way too much like the Euro too.

Awake, O kings of the earth! Come ye, O, come ye, with your gold and your silver, to the help of my people, to the house of the daughters of Zion, to the help of the people of the God of this Land even Jesus Christ. |

The similarity of the US dollar to the Loonie is intentional, and consistant with the long time standardization of US/Cdn coin sizes. I doubt it is a sign of a currency union or any other such thing. This way the coins will work in each others vending machines, coin counters, shopping card locks etc making life easier for many industries and people.
The US is also recognizing that previous attempts circulating a dollar coin failed for two reasons - it was too large, and the dollar bill continues to circulate. If they stopped printing and started pulling bills the coin use would rocket up.
I have long pulled out all US coins and used them when I visit the US. Even at 1:1 there is a savings in exchange rate conversion charges of a couple points. Plus the conviniance as many clerks will refuse Canadian coins in the US (maybe less so now) |
