Bought these yesterday.
One Morgan and one Peace, 18 per. The Morgan picture doesn't do it justice, really clean coin, lots of detail an no scratches. Looks uncirculated to me, I am no grader though.

| eh...uncirculated morgans are very common...I would look around for another dealer, if I was you. You aren't getting ripped, but you aren't getting good prices either IMO. |

If I didn't want to hear it I wouldn't have asked. It's really hard to offend me normally. 
I am new as I said before to buying and am just trying to catch up to the learning curve without paying too steep a price. You guys know the trade, so I appreciate your responses. |

Hey man, there are probably more than a few of us on here (myself included) kicking ourselves that we didn't start thinking about buying silver in 2001, but the fact that we've found this board means that we're learning quickly!
My approach to buying silver is sort of like the old StarKist Tuna commercials--I don't want silver that looks good, I just want the goods that are silver. |

I checked a local dealer today that I haven't checked in a while. He wants $22 for Peace and $25 for Morgans. He also wants $23 for all eagles except 08's which he wants $25 for.
I guess it's obvious why I haven't checked him in a while... ;)
I don't think the price was that bad, although only because of experience I would have passed.

| The only Morgan I have I got from a local dealer for $13 because it was damaged (looked like someone took a belt sander to the back side). I only wanted it for the silver value anyway. |

I agree that it was a bit high. If you are buying purely for silver value, cull coins are not a bad way to invest. As long as you can tell what the coin is, why not grab it up. Silver is silver....

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

| Those are rather hot on the market of coins lately. Even books now being sold on just Morgans. Of course as already noted the prices were a little on the high side but I've seen them for a lot more and not to many for less. Keep up the good searching. |

$16 is the same price I can get in Dallas. However, the price you paid of $18 is good compared to most dealers. Many dealers I visit have these old silver dollars going in the $22 to $23 range. So, did you get the best deal possible? No, but you also got a pretty good deal when compared to what most dealers charge. You can't buy Morgans or Peace for junk (spot); they carry a bit of a numistmatic premium. 21 in the Morgan is a common date, but it is silver. I don't have my Red Book with me to check the Peace dates.
I like your purchases. A silver dollar just feels like it is worth something. The pictures are not sharp enough to grade the coins. The Morgan may even go AU just from the picture. I wish we still carried and spent those. |

Not that bad a deal at all, considering how popular morgans and peace dollars are now. Plus you have to figure in that even if you found a good deal online at Apmex or eBay, you'd still have to pay shipping, plus stress a little until your coins actually arrived, plus it probably wouldn't be worthwhile to only buy two and have them shipped . . .

| I did a little checking this afternoon. best price I could find was $15 per if bought everything the dealer had. $16 each for complete tubes (20 coins), and $17 each if I wanted to cherry pick a few from the selection. So, Kurr, I think you got a very good deal. With those two in your pocket you have some real money. I wonder what two silver dollars would have bought back in 1922? Those might have bought a couple of good steaks just like they would still today. |
