$100 Brinks box....63 pre 1964; 17 "s" mints- '68(x2), '69(x4), '70(x11); 1 war nick ('43p); and the GRAND DADDY OF 'EM ALL: 1883 no cents liberty head nickel (this one is probably vf; "liberty" is still fully visible ).

Wow.. Great find!!! I have never found a single liberty nickel, even with cents in any of my nickel sorts.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Let me see if I understand this? If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor; the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the US border illegally, you get a driver’s license, a social security card, welfare, food stamps, free health care!

Hey hcbtt, there's a separate thread I started with scans of the 1883 liberty head if you wanna see pics. The thread title is "awesome find last night"; it's right here in the nickel sorting forum.

Newbie to nickel sorting, sorted my first 25 rolls and came across 10 war nickels and 8 others between 1939 and 1958. Is this normal or just beginners luck?

$100 NF String box: 1 war nick ('43p); 4 Canadian ('81 (.999 Ni), '86, '92(125th anniv), '94; 19 "s" mints ('41, '68(x3), '69(x6), '70(x9); 71 pre-'64 (oldest was a '39). These numbers have been fairly consistent, regardless of the company name on the box.

Mike.. I would say it is beginner's luck. Go back to where you got those rolls and get a bunch more rolls.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Where did you buy them from? I might have sorted them since I supply several US vendors.

Sorted the last 5 boxes of the year, and they were good ones. I don't know what's up, but I am finding buffalos almost as often as war nicks lately...

3 war nicks.
3 .999 Cdn.
2 more buffalos, a '13 variety II, and a '17.
1 Liberty.
A '00 proof.
2 pennies.

Decided to try some Nickels.... 3 boxes

I don't plan on hoarding these, but I went into it with a plan... To Save all nickels pre 1960.

Mainly for future Num value (long time down the road)and silver...

Anyways I ended up with 7 war nickels and 32 pre 60's with a 39 being my oldest...

Would these sorts %'s be standard?

I searched a $100 box of nckeles a year ago and found nothing of intrest. However, this weekend I got $10 in nickels sorted them and bought another $10. I found about 15 pre-1964, one 1945 war nickel, and a 1939! Not bad?

My first goal is to fill up my nickel books.(that should take a few dollars worth of Nickels to do) Then I am looking for war nickels and buffalos exclusively.

Ove the years I have found 5 buffalo nickels in change I have gotten, but none since I have started to seach rolls.

I think I will give up roll searching when I find either and Indian head penny or a pre-buffallo nickel.
