Welcome to the forum! By copper chops do you mean pre 82 pennies or just scrap copper?

I feel like I just read about this on another forum

Welcome! If you are who I think you are, I might be interested in another pelletized product you mentioned on the other forum. I had that thread marked to send you a PM, but I'm more active over here.

Hi, everyone.

I showed up here through The Survivalist Blog, and have enjoyed lurking. My main interest lies in prepping, which has recently expanded to include getting my hands on coins. I've always had a very-small interest in coins, but not to the point of actually collecting them - they're just neat, that's all. :)

However, I'm having fun sorting change on my very-limited scale...and I, for whatever reason, enjoy prepping. Why? I have no idea. Maybe I just like the fact that my family and I are doing what we can to be ready for the future - security is enjoyable, right? :)

Welcome Sarah. Yup coins are very interesting. Especially when you collect them by the ton :) Start small and grow from there.

Thank you to the owners for this valuable site and a special thank you to Ruprik over at Goldismoney for sharing his vast knowledge.

Decided to sign up after stopping by the bank this morning for $200 in pennies. The first bank didn't want anything to do with it and I had to go elsewhere. Luckily the 2nd bank had $50 bags of pennies, so i took all 4 they had. No rolls to deal with.

I sorted several hundred in pennies earlier this year, but got burned out. But now i'm getting the fever again ! Need something productive to do while the wife watching reality crap on tv too

Hope to learn a lot and share some stories, hopefully i'll have some after this $200 lot of pennies. Gave up searching halves. Never found much of anything except a few 40%ers, not worth the trouble. And the tellers seem to get really irritated when you ask. Which really irritates me. Aren't these people supposed to be helpful? It's not like i go in there very often doing this. Anyway, thank you for the site, hope i can add some value to it.

my daughter and i do alot of coin roll hunting and contemplating getting a Ryedale. i have been collecting/investing in coins as a collector and once upon a time dealer for over 40 years. daughter has been collecting for almost 3 years, and we have been pulling copper for same amount of time. member of ANA, several coin clubs, and metal detecting clubs. daughter is involved in all aspects of collecting now, but boys are on the horizon. guess i may be sorting coins alone soon.

Weclome to the site. Glad you are getting the "fever" again.

Yes. bank tellers are suppose to be helpful but just like most people these day they are lazy! They don't like to have to go get the "heavy" bag and bring it to you. I would keep doing halves even if it annoys the tellers. That or just find a differnt bank to go to.

Welcome to the forum Jorick. Where you a dealer in FL for 40 years or did you just retire down there?

Just tell your daughter that Lincoln is all the man she needs for now

Glad to see you and your daughter are apart of the hobby. We are having a realcent get together at the FUN show in Jan so I invite both you and your daughter to go. You live in FL so Orlando shouldn't be to far.

Cool site... It took me a while to find this place, but I'm glad I did. I also started out in Numismatics, but I found I'm more interested in the content (bullion) in a coin. I think my interest in the bullion came from my work with metal fabrication; the Recycle guy came to our shop every few weeks to pick up our scrap aluminum and stainless steel. This is the reason why I have an interest in Nickel, or I refer to it as "Space Gold" since Nickel is commonly found in iron meteorites.

Red, welcome to the site. Copper and siver talk will not be hard to come by around here. They are kinda like doorway drugs to the gold if you don't already have any. Have fun!

just joined...been reading for a month or so. I have been hand sorting copper and trying to build a (ryedale) machine for over a year. I have been through 4 different ideas of how it could be done, until i finally found a coin comparitor, and shortly therafter making a machine that somewhat worked I found andy and the ryedalecoin sorter. I just ordered one yesterday and cant wait to get it, not that i have given up on my own idea but buying one is a hell of a lot easier than making one.
as far as my coin interests, i sort halves when i can get my hands on them, I always sort pennies and have about half a ton in copper hoarded up,i have dabbled in nickels and keep all of them, and buy anything that looks old or unique. i love to trade and buy and sell. As a career I am a builder, guess that is why i am so into coins right now as there is nothing to build. Got a house in colorado and vermont, 2 kids and a wife, in my mid 30s..just got my father in on the sorting too, hes got a pennywise sorter ordered, cant wait to hear how that works....really physched i found this sight, tons of information here, hopefully i can contribute something somebody needs to know.

drink beer, hunt deer, and collect copper.

Welcome to the forum toomuchcopper. I went through the same process before buying my first Ryedale. Sounds like you are way ahead of most folks already.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Let me see if I understand this? If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor; the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the US border illegally, you get a driver’s license, a social security card, welfare, food stamps, free health care!
