Hello everyone,
My name is Ian and I have been reading messages on this forum for quite some time. Nate from The Copper Cave recently invited me to sign up and I thought that would be a great idea! I originally started investing in shares of gold mining companies about 5 years ago. I got "lucky" and made a nice profit on Desert Sun Mining which was later acquired by Yamana. This spurred a lot of interest in the field and I started collecting a few gold bullion coins. The rest is history and I'm now obsessed with gold bullion, silver bullion, copper bullion, hoarding metals, and tangible wealth in general. I'm a smaller time investor right now and truly believe in the power of hoarding copper pennies one at a time. While not at my day job, I created a website called GoldWhy dot com to discuss my passion for all this great stuff. I have been spending a lot of time over the last year writing for the site and have gotten a great response. I continue to update it regularly and am looking forward to what the new year brings. Happy to be a part of this community!
Best,
Ian

Hi There,

First post here. I enjoy reading all the adventures. I work at a credit union and with the economic downturn, we certainly are seeing a large number of folks dumping coins into our machine. It doesn't sort by coin, rather it fills bags with mixed coin. The best thing is that I can buy those bags AFTER seeing what is in them (a cursory glance). Friday I reached in and pulled out a Franklin! That bag also had about 30-40% coppers and about 20 wheats!

Best of luck to everyone!

kensho52, welcome to the site. Working in a credit union would indeed have some perks. Where are you located?

Agreed, nice job. Working somewhere like that would be a kick. I just hope your making it.

Thanks to everyone for the welcome. I am the head IT guy for the credit union, so I don't really work directly with the members. All the front line folks know I'm "the coin guy". I recently walked through the lobby and found an older lady starting to dump into the machine. I saw a seated liberty half! I met with her and went through what she had and paid her fair value. I don't like taking advantage of someone's misfortune. Karma gets me the occasional half and a bunch of copper.

I've been mining this forum for about a week now, and finally found this thread... don't know how I missed it before. I guess it's like missing a wheat cent on preliminary scan.

Anyway, my name is Michael and I have a company that produces gold, silver, and copper bullion. My ryedale arrives this week, but I am already sitting on a pile of hand sorted 95% copper cents. I live in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and realize 25-30% copper per roll. My interest in commodity investing, collecting, and trading began in 2007 after some great information gained during a dinner with my father.

I plan to be a positive contributing member for a looooooong time, if you guys and gals will have me.

Hello all I have been lurking for the last few of weeks and just joined. My name is Wayne and I wish I had looked here a year ago maybe I world still have some value in my 401k. I have been hand sorting penny rolls for the last couple of weeks. Getting about 20 percent copper(no wheats or indians). Not able to do much more right now because the wife has been out sick from work since Oct. Hope to pick up the pace in a month or two, hope it's not too late.

Welcome. Nope, you're not too late. Plenty of copper out there. No wheats huh, that's odd.... Hope everything is okay with your wife. Take care and once again, welcome.

Hi,

This is my first post, but I have been lurking for a while. We are a little new to the whole game of metal investing and such. We have always had one toe in the water, but decided after the the birth of our first child just over three years ago to get a little more serious. The interesting events that have taken place over the past few months have put us in the position of being even more serious. We are trying to shore up on several fronts - emergency preparedness, food storage, bullion investing, and our latest project is finding what we call our "Plan C" which is where we would go if tshtf and we needed to leave the country. At first it was out of fear, but now we are starting to enjoy it. We have three kids - with the oldest being 3 - so it is our duty to be prepared.
One of "heros" is Otto Frank. While most people remember Anne Frank, it was her father who began building the secret room as soon as he heard about Hitler. When the letter came for his oldest daughter - he was ready to go and take his family to safety. While they didn't have eventual success for everyone, they got to spend some wonderful additional years together and maybe would have made it within a few weeks. As a parent, that is my job - to protect my children at all cost.
One good thing is we were faithfully buying savings bonds - we can now turn those in to "real money". Not much, but a start.
I have learned a lot from being here already and hope to learn a lot more.

Hi,

My name is Bogdan, my nationality is Romanian, but I have moved to Canada/Ontario more than five year ago.
I found realcent forum last fall when I was looking for a way to diversify my investments, after losing 10k in my RRSP(401K for US), I found a lot of useful knowledge on this forum like what bullion products are out there, metal trends, bullion premiums, I also found interesting people here and I have to ADMIT that I check this site everyday.

I think I always had the love for coins and numismatic, my grandparents passed to my parents some gold coins like in this link(http://www.geocities.com/romaniancoins/100lei1939.html or http://www.geocities.com/romaniancoins/100lei1940.html), but unfortunately my parents did not passes them to me when I moved to Canada. I still remember how it feels holding gold coins in my hands as a kid.

Here in Canada there is a big variety of coins and coin designs that makes it fun to coin-hunt/collect, over the years before start hoarding I have found couple silver dimes in the wild.
First I started collecting pennies, but after a while I stopped because I came across some very dirty one. For a while I have sorted dimes and I think I found a dozen of silver dimes in the wild, but the return was not so great. Currently I am sorting nickels and my avg. return are 10% Ca .999 Ni and 1% US CuNi.

I found some old US nickel coins :'39, '40, '41, 1943(WN), '48, '50, '55 ... to date.
For Canadian nickel I am still missing '38, '39, '43, '48, and I hope one day I will find these in the wild.

Over time I came across coins from different countries like France, Belgium, Iran, Guyana, Mexico, Trinidad, UK I almost have a full glass of the other countries coinage, countries that I hope one day I am going to visit.

I do this for fun and when I find a "new coin" I inform myself as much as I can about the country, metal composition, denominations, etc.

The coins that I always liked are hungarian koronas:
http://www.taxfreegold.co.uk/hungary.html

Cheers,
Bogdan

New here as well. My name is Mike, I'm from a little town in Alabama and am 22 years old. I was originally looking for a forum dedicated to scrapping cars and metals. I found it here and alot more! I have learned so much in the past week alone from this site. Went out on a rainy day and bought $435 in halves(43 rolls, $5 loose) and scored 28 40%ers. Probably nothing to what you guys have stashed, but still very excited about it! Anyways, hello! -Mike
